If you want to avoid spoilers, don't read EQD's new article, since it tells us something very interesting -- something which some of the fanfic world may not be overly thrilled about. However, one non-spoilery thing it tells us is that Season 6 will be this spring. I'd been mentally preparing myself for another long hiatus, so this is excellent news all round -- except that it means less time to get fanfics finished before their key points are overtaken by canon.
And about that, here's something that is going to get people talking, so good luck on avoiding spoilers of it... The royal foal, Flurry Heart, is an alicorn. On the face of it, that demolishes the "alicorns are always made, not born" argument forever. I do wonder whether there might be more to it than meets the eye, but there's no doubt: the teaser clip quite clearly shows the filly as having both wings and a horn.

One point to sugges that there might be more than meets the eye is that she appears much more maturely developed than Pound or Pumpkin, almost like a young Sweetie Belle.
Given Twilight's surprise, it seems that this is as unusual in Equestria as it is out here. I suppose alicorns never reproduced before.
3718742 That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it, and several others (and you!) have said the same. I'd actually be disappointed if Twilight's shocked reaction didn't prove to be significant.
3718720 There's that, too, though Pound and Pumpkin aren't royal, and princesses always seem to be larger than average. Look how Twi's grown since her ascension.
