New Story Soon, and a Return to Active Status · 9:13pm Jan 22nd, 2016
Howdy, folks!
I have a new story coming out soon. It’s a return to the Twilight Holmes series I started with It's Elementary, My Dear Rainbow way, way back in the innocent and bygone year of 2013. Man, time moves strangely on the internet.
This one’s a multi-chapter fic. The first chapter’s been drafted and is currently in edits, clocking in around 5,500 words. Barring any catastrophic events, such as lightning strikes or ninja attacks, I should be posting it to the site on Monday. Updates on it are going to be a little sporadic, but it shouldn’t take too long between chapters. It’s quite fun to write.
I’ve been wanting to write this specific Twilight Holmes story for ages, but it’s much longer than the others and I kept putting it off for different projects. And then I sort of accidentally retired from writing fanfic. Oops. I’ve spent a lot of time since, oh, the summer of 2014 lamenting my lack of activity writing pony, being kinda embarrassed about breaking the radio silence when I didn’t have anything new to post, and otherwise just sorta lurking while my attentions were divided elsewhere.
Well, you know what? Screw that. I miss you guys. I miss being involved in the site. And most of all, I really miss writing about ponies. So let’s go back to that. Here I am, reporting back to active fanfic writing duty.
Things will remain slower from me than they were back in, like, 2013, but compared to 2015, they’re going to be much, much faster. My attentions are remaining divided as I’m still working actively on original fiction, but I’ve altered my writing schedule to make consistent room to work on ponyfic. A couple weeks ago, I decided I’d try my hand at alternating between projects at a much faster clip. Before, I had little end goal word counts for the big original fiction project in mind, with plans to step over to pony or something else when I got to a milestone. Which, uhh, worked okay. The Thinkin’ Spot was written in that time, as was an original fiction short story. But it really isn’t a fast enough plan to have much to show for it publicly, and so long as we’re all being honest, not having that public sharing at regular intervals slows writing down for me.
So here’s what’s happening. I write a chapter of a pony thing, then a chapter of a different thing, back and forth. Pony isn’t going to have all my attention, but it is getting a good half of it, and I’m using it as a tool to motivate me to write more in general. Last year had a lackluster 60-70k words written for me, and working this way should hopefully help get me back in the headspace and productivity level I was in back in 2013, writing 150-250k words a year. I’m already on pace to for ~180k words this year so far, and quite honestly I’m going at a kinda sedate pace.
It’s definitely gonna be slower than 2013 when I was only writing pony and all of the work I put out ended up on fimfic, but if half of what I write ends up here, I think I’ll be happy, and hopefully you will be, too.
In addition, that aforementioned embarrassment about breaking radio silence is going to end, because I’m not going to be silent. Stuff’s in the pipeline and should be coming out with some regularity, so what’s there to be embarrassed about? As a result, I’m gonna be more involved in the site again. Expect more blogs, and probably more comments on forums and in others’ blogs, too. I missed you guys. I hope to hear from you more often. 2016 has had a very strange start for everyone, but here’s hoping for a great year by the end of it.
Thank you all so much, you guys. I know I’ve lost a heck of a lot of headway on this site. I’m sure at least a few of you are looking at this blog and saying ‘who the heck is bats?’ and many others might not even remember reading any of the Twilight Holmes stories, but I hope I can make up for that downtime. This will be the first of hopefully many stories this year, and I hope you stick with me.

You're way off the mark if you honestly think we would forget you. Spellbound Fireflies is numinous, and Coming Back has such an unforgettable premise. I'm looking forward to what comes next.
All I care about atm is whether or not you're going to finish Coming Back. I just got done re-re-reading it and it is still one of the best stories I've read since joining the fandom.

Probably not. I attempted recently (as in about a month ago) to continue with the rewrites on it, and the interest just isn't there for me to work on it. I know a lot of people like it and maybe at some point the interest will be back to where I can continue it, but right now it's really low likelihood. I hate that that's the case, considering the amount of time and effort I've put into it, but I just can't stomach working on it anymore.
