NATOstrike's cancer came back · 11:34pm Jan 20th, 2016

I should've posted this days ago, and I suppose everybody who (unlike me) knows him has read it already, but NATOstrike's cancer came back, worse than before. It sounds like he has extracranial metastatic malignant meningioma. All those long m-words sound funny together, but it's not funny. It's a kind of brain tumor that rarely turns cancerous, but in his case, it seems it has.

Even getting malignant meningioma is rare enough that no two sources agree on what the median survival time is. It's not a one-in-a-million thing; it's a one-in-600,000 thing. I've read statistics from supposedly reliable sources ranging from 1 year to 10+ years. But what he has, it sounds like, is extracranial malignant meningioma, which is so rare (less than 1 in 1000 meningiomas are extracranial) that there are no meaningful statistics on it.

I think there might be some hope that what they saw on his recent MRIs was an outbtreak of non-malignant familial meningioma. Because people can inherit a tendency to get meningiomas, usually from a mutation in the NF2 gene, and these tumors appear around a person's 30s, and because malignant meningioma is rare, I'd think it would be difficult to distinguish a sudden appearance of numerous non-cancerous familial meningiomas from metastasis on an MRI. The details he gave weren't specific on where the tumors were, whether he'd already been diagnosed with malignant meningioma, or how his doctors made that judgement, and I haven't asked him. I don't even know him.

Anyway, he was glad to get supportive comments on his post, so maybe it's not too late to post more of them.

He's been in good spirits considering the news he got.

Plus he was quite humbled from the responses he got.

I'm not sure if this is a terrible coincidence, or if for some reason Google Ads thinks it is appropriate, but I got this ad on this page when I loaded it:

Definitely no way you could misinterpret a dotted red arc going from the US to China on a page mentioning NATOStrike.

PS. Cancer sucks. It is best to avoid it.

I'm full of useful advice.

Fuck.
That bites.
He got any family to be around? I mean besides, God help us, us?

One of his comments mentions his life insurance policy for his children, so, yes.
