Some fic recomendations · 8:45am Jan 20th, 2016
Not usually a big person for doing this but I feel like referring a few fics that aren't getting the love they deserve, don't expect in depth analysis I've never been one to do so as it often lessens the joy I get from reading.
Let's do this.
Let's start off with something fairly recent (although with a daily update not very short)
Fic: Andromeda
Author: Copernicus
Similar to the more popular: Austraeoh series.
Why: A daily update fic with shorter chapters that leaves you hungry for the next chapter, good scenery, interesting story and a big world for you to discover piece by piece as the story progresses.
Next up is a fic I'm surprised hasn't seen more attention, although since their other work is NSFW I'm not surprised.
Fic: Before the Storm: The Rise of Firefly
Author: Firesight
Similar to the more popular: Wind and Stone
Why: While still focusing primarily on a certain pegasus the other races aren't excluded. Use of pseudo old english is kind of odd but interestingly seems more prominent in more formal situations.
um... oh boy, this is awkward.
Fic: Wind and Stone
Author: Ruirik
Similar to the more popular: Um... I got nothing off the top of my head, it really stands alone... Or with Rise of Firefly I guess.
Why: Focused on a war between pegasi and griffons close to the time of unification. No unicorn or earth ponies, great depictions of warfare, good characters.
Just one more darker fic and I'll post some happier stuff, I swear and boy is it dark.
Fic: Fragility
Author: Azure-Spark
Similar to the more popular: Sombra/Chrysalis Kind of.
Why: Dark, so dark. Predating Sombra by about 1 month this fic has a fixation on crystals that escalates to mind control and necromancy. Interestingly in some ways towards the very end the character has a very Chrysalis feel to her.
A personal favorite at the time, like so many fics from back then doesn't hold up the best but still enjoyable.
Fic: Stormy Nights trilogy
Author: Void Chicken
Similar to the more popular:
Why: It's a classic EqD fic from the S2 hiatus and to be honest it holds a special place in my heart.
Not really light or dark but definitely one for those of you with a language fetish.
Fic: Subjunctive
Author: Integral Archer
Similar to the more popular: University level english textbook.
Why: Because it's far more enjoyable than a university level english textbook. I won't lie, I struggled in a couple places and am still waiting for my degree in english to be shipped to me by the author. Very fun to read for undefinable reasons. I should probably re-read it.
I appreciate the shout-out on Rise of Firefly!
It's been a slow climb for it, and it remains my least popular yet highest-ranked story... perhaps because it's not, as you say, my usual fare. A little frustrating, but it's in for the long haul, and remains my favorite story to work on when I need a break from that usual fare. Thanks for following it! 
3699894 It's a wonderful fic, I don't remember who referred me to it though.
I was going to link each author's most famous fic so people could go "Oh he wrote THAT?" and draw more people in... but it doesn't quite work with you. That and most of the time if it's a big name author it will usually already be popular because of the blind upvote and favorite crowd.
Also thanks for posting here, it reminded me that I hadn't sent out notices to the authors on the list. I always liked getting notices when people talked about my fics and feel it's only fair to return the favor.
