I'm sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience, but is was my Great GrandFather. He had been in the navy during WW2 and was in the airforce for the korean and Vetnam wars got a medal or honor for it. He passed away on August 5th 2015 2:45am. He had full military honors at a national cemetary. The hardest things was not crying when I went up to his cascet in the funeral home and not crying when they gave the gun salute.
He gave me a .22 Lr rifle 2 years ago for my birthday and I just shot it today for the first time. Lets just say I was honoring his life by using his present.
