Well that took a long time · 2:01am Jan 13th, 2016
Opened my mail today to see that Diary of the Banished got rejected from The Royal Guard. I expect rejection anymore, yet what surprised me was the fact I got an actual response with some critiques. At this point, I fell ambivalent towards the criticisms. It's through writing that I get a great sense of pleasure and crave this type of interaction to better myself as a writer. It is through critiques that a person can grow themselves. The other side of me feels a bit miffed. I feel miffed at the fact it took for what seemed like forever to get a response, and the fact I've tried several times to find proofreaders to look over my material, yet to no avail.
My quest to become a writer is eclipsed by the need for a good proofreader who has the time, patience, effort, and energy to look over my materials to help me grow. Without this essential element, I'm left in the dust. Via the individual's notes on my story, they pointed out quite succinctly, numerous times for that matter, the story is rather... well, being blunt, horrible. The narration sucks, the character seems to border on Gary Sue territory, his redeeming qualities don't seem to exist, and the story itself is so riff with grammatical errors it should be condemn as the work of some ditsy, fantasizing elementary school goer who just knows how to make a few sentences work. All of that is probably just the tip of the doomsday sized iceburg.
O well, in the end, it's my story and I'll just continue to move forward on shaky footing. I hoped to make Diary of the Banished a powerful story. It started off as a dream of mine, a hope to make a beautiful story that would get noticed. Part of me got the sense I had turned a corner after going in and reworking the prologue, first, second, and third chapters. That was a grave mistake on my part, and an error in judgment. What plagues the story is still there. The new writing just brings it further into the light.
Ok, blah, blah, blah, life is consuming me. I'm on a mini-hiatus with school starting up and other RL issues coming about. I hope to continue my work on my main story and finish up Full Bloom. Thanks to all those who read and enjoy my stories.
I hope to bring some better stories come this year, and, maybe, perhaps, if I'm lucky, get a story on the front page. I doubt it, but, still, it would be nice.
