Midnight was traumatized by seeing Hate Seed murder the Blues' mother, and Vivian... she's so dumb, she can't even speak! Pun intended! (Dumb means mute) Sky has these prophetic dreams about a spirit pony named Lucilia, who tells her about her quests as well as gives her help on them.

Young Cipher (though mostly refereed to as just Cipher) is Pegasus that acts as a vessel for the spirit of an ancient Alicorn called (the mother of life and understanding). At a early stage in life he was selected by the mother to be a vessel. As part of a long standing (yet hidden) prophecy an ancient banished evil would return to breathe destruction on the land. Cipher flees his home leaving his old life and friends behind to the calamity and goes to Equestria by the mother's instruction to covertly influence the elements of harmony to be able to combat the return of the evil in Equestria. With the soul of an Alicorn in his body he has the ability to use magic despite the lack of a horn.
