Asylum - The Video Game · 2:27am Jan 4th, 2016
So our good friend and amazing artist DreamingNoctis has recently taken a shine to some animated, pixel art. It is some pretty impressive start, especially for a first few attempts.
So I give you two scenes from the coming soon hypothetical adventure game based around Asylum.
First, we have Twilight's room, complete with ominous lighting and her (much reduced) "library".
Second, we have a look at Rainbow Dash's room, along with all those trophies she won as best flier... wait, where are they going?

Wow, this is great. I've only read two chapters and I now have visuals. And, the game looks to be of way better quality than Commander Keene or any of Hugo's rotten adventures. I wish I knew what software to use to make Cosmi art.
You mean to tell me there's potentially awesome shit being done for something that I can't know anything about because the original source material won't be finished until the year 2100?! Damn it, DoD, finish that story!

Well, it's not a game. Just pixelart. I don't know how to make a game, so this is the closest I can get!
Also, man. Hugo's House of Horrors. That one was...not the best. Commander Keen was a little fun, but still paled compared to most other platformers of its day, especially the ones on the NES and SNES.
As for the software, I just used Photoshop.

I took a couple of classes in game design and development before the program for the minor was dropped. So, I've never actually programmed a game, I only learned a bit of history and how to write up a proposal. BUT, It's the best possible thing ever since you can learn how to make video games for free now with things like Code.org and a whole bunch of others http://lifehacker.com/the-best-free-tools-for-making-your-own-video-games-1689905461
Which I plan on looking into myself once I've patched in all the holes and finished compensating for the shortfalls of my education. Also, you should look into GURPS. Trust me it will save you a bit of effort in the construction department.

Oh, I don't really have any desire to make games. If I was ever involved in such a project it would be purely on the visual and conceptual side. I've tried to learn coding like, 7 times since 1997. It's never taken, for some reason. I just have no aptitude for it. My chosen career path is much different anyway.
I'm familiar with GURPS. I was mostly interested in it due to the huge variety of settings and ideas that were available.
oh man... I hope this reinspires you guys to work on the tumblr AND the story some more! These look great! Very... 'Maniac Mansion' feeling.

I know what you mean, learning Xhtml and Dos came in handy for classwork, but never really got used beyond that. WYSIWYG and Photoshop get more immediate use. And, thanks to Adobe owning everything editing software it's not much of a stretch to jump from one bridge to another in the suite... It's like windows or mac user interfaces, all changes are mostly cosmetic all the command keys perform the same function unless they've been tinkered with.

Thank god that shit like Gamemaker and RPG maker exist. I know many of the newer programming languages are far, far better, I've been told that basically what is the evolution of C++ is a lot better than what it was before, don't know what it's name is through.
Seems like it'd be a cool escape kinda game.
