    Important message about Suicide

WARNING: Discussions, however brief for the sake of tact, about self-harm and suicidal thoughts are in this post. People especially vulnerable to such should ensure they are in a good headspace before reading. This sort of trigger is no joke.

    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

Godzilla 2016 Suit Images (SPOILERS AHOY) · 1:40am Jan 4th, 2016

Bear in mind the following is entirely opinion based. If you disagree you are completely welcome too. I am not attacking you or the things you like.

My reaction?.... I'mmmmmm not feeling it. In all honesty this just might end up being my least favorite of all the suits. Yes, I even think some of the craptastic Showa era suits look better because at least with them you had a big narm factor to laugh at it. This one? Not so much. I can tell it's supposed to be scary and nightmarish, but this honestly just comes off as over-the-top. The exposed muscle could work, but added too much red to the color scheme. Godzilla 90%+ of the time charcoal gray, with him sometimes looking black at night. This however has just so much red on it, not only can I not look at it and not think of many bad Red-Black OCs, but it seems to come off as just trying too hard to be 'edgy'. Heck, he looks so red in the third image he looks less like Godzilla and more like an Ultraman monster, due to them usually being much brighter in color than the Toho kaiju. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just doesn't seem to fit right for Godzilla; who's design is usually pretty simple.

There's other nit picks like the weird hand proportion and lack of eyelids making his eyes look like their about to pop out (and unlike GMK we still got pupils so I honestly think it just looks silly), but all and all my hopes are sinking more for this movie. The first Godzilla movie was considered scary for it's time not because we had a walking corpse plodding around, but due to tone and clever film making. This? This just sends up a lot of red flags that someone is just trying way to hard to make something scary without knowing what makes something frightening. For me, this suit is a big ol' bucket of nightmare retardant. Poor thing looks so torn up I pity it rather than fear it. Threat requires you to buy that its dangerous to begin with. I can't see this thing fighting other kaiju or wading through military onslaughts. It looks like its about to fall apart.

Toho, I shouldn't be worrying if Ol' Mr. Gojira is going to break his poor 10,000 ton hip if he falls over.

Now, who knows; this could still end up great. Until we see a clear, moving image and video of the suit with all the post production effects; I will hold off final judgement and would encourage the same here for everyone. However I will say you're beginning to really worry me Hideaki Anno.

I'd prefer the CGI version of Godzilla than that suit! That's just....
Yikes!

3662493
I too say yikes, just sadly for different reasons :twilightsheepish:

It looks bad. I prefer the old Godzilla suits and the Godzilla from 2014

He looks like he needs some lotion.

Wow, this.......I cannot even imagine why Toho would create such a.........whatever this is.

For one, THIS Godzilla looks like it would rather belong in a straight-up horror movie than an action-packed Japanese monster film. If horror movies could include giant, muscle-exposed, and sharped teeth monsters. And further more, I believe another movie company would get inspired by JUST THIS Godzilla version to create yet another horror film.

This is only my opinion. But, I do not even want to imagine the looks on other people's faces when they see..........THIS.

Honestly it looks really ugly

If thats supose to scare people... no, just no. I can imagine a jump scary with that face, but not as a whole... maybe, just maybe, this is suppose to be Gojira a few minutes after the nuke mutated him? Or maybe he just didnt heal right... or maybe, he isnt finished mutating, and this is some sort of pre-final form? Meh, whatever it is, I'll probably watch it anyway

This looks like a Godzilla zombie, like Ghost Godzilla, oh wait we already have that. And what the hell is up with the arms? They look like t-rex arms. Don't even get me started on the eyes.

3662558

What really confuses me about the arms is how buff and burly the upper arm is, but then he's got these tiny little things coming out all that bulk.

3662564
Exactly, how in the hell is he supposed to collide and wreck buildings? How is he suppose to fight other monsters with those? How is supposed to pick up a bus and throw it back downAs he wades through the buildings toward the center of town? Fucking Gabara could break those toothpick arms. GABARA! Zilla looks more threatening than this, and more durable, and that guy killed by fighter jet missles.

I have the same felling for this Godzilla as the 2014 one in the beginning. It didn't look good and now I love the design of the 2014 Godzilla so hopefully it end up the same. Add some cgi, put it in shadows, and other little things and it should be good.

So wait the guy who made Evangelion is the one behind this? Guess that explains why he looks like the offspring of a special needs Angel.

Poor guy looks like he belongs in Dark Souls. I wouldn't say it looks great, neither would I say it looks horrible, its just...meh. I liked the head when they first showed it but now it just looks like their doing to much with him. I don't know...it doesn't scream Godzilla to me.

When I saw ShinGojira's image in that Japanese movie poster you posted in a previous blog, I thought it looked pretty cool; reminded me of the original Gorjira (1954).

But seeing these images...... I know some of the past Goji suits looked a little funny, but this... this looks like something out of a cheesy B Horror movie. Good for a jump scare, perhaps, but that's about it.

I'm still gonna watch the movie when it comes out.

3662564 I think they are not attempting to make an action move.

Hm, I mostly agree with you that this design looks less like Godzilla and more like some poor dinosaur got a bad skin condition.

Still, I'll hold off being too judgmental until I can see the suit in action and how the film itself handles things. Its hard to tell much just by looking at a few partial still frames. Its kind of weird they put the suit in such daylight shots. I get the feeling this suit would look far more intimidating with the right kind of dark, night lighting.

Its also possible they're going not just for scary, but kind of a sympathy for the monster as well, like its origins from radiation or whatever are also decaying its body and its in constant pain. It certainly looks like it is, at any rate. Makes me think of a rabid junkyard dog, actually.

Eeeeeeh. At first I was sold, but now... I don't know. I mean, I kinda like the exposed tissue on him, but they really overdid it. I mean it could work if it was some zombie hellspawn coming to bring havoc upon humanity, but it just seems out of place. Im ok with the head but this guy could use eye lids as you say. His arms do look too short, like tyranosaurus but more sad. They seem like They're trying too hard to make him look scary. But I guess we will have to wait and see how it turns out. I just hope the movie is good.

Wow... just wow. I'd still like to get a glimpse of this suit in action, though just to see how it does. The design has strayed quite a bit from what I'm used to seeing on our favorite irradiated dinosaur, and makes it look like a zombie apocalypse Gojira.

I dont know know why but it reminds me of Attack on Titan, anyone else?

he looks like he belongs in world war Z or some other zombie movie

Jeez, he looks like he went one too many rounds with King Ghidorah. But, in all seriousness, I really don't like it. As you said, I'm less scared of it and more pity it. I'm still reserving my judgment until I see the movie, but it looks like it's going to be the Attack on Titan movie all over again.

3662692
Well, the director of the live action AoT movie is attached to this movie so that might have something to do with it.

What is with this suit's colors? It looks like some kind of Zombiezilla. Personally, I think it would be fine if they used the GMK/Ghost Godzilla suit and gave it some pupils. I just hope they get this movie right as a horror film.

They'll fix him up for sequels, if this is going where I think it will then the next suit will be an improvement over ResurGoji.

This is just a question but does this remind anyone else of Red? Like if he made a Godzilla and that was the result, that would be interesting...

Now I used to be fine with new look for the Shin Goji... Now my opinion has changed I mean, I understand they're trying to make him scarier then before but this... If his eyes were like GMK Ghost Goji it would be fine in my opinion but something about this one just seem odd to me for a reason. But maybe the movie might make it up for it so I'm just going to hold judgement until I see the movie myself before finalizing my opinion.

Also if I have to make a Top list of least favorite godzilla incarnations(Which is actually a tiny list) this incarnation would have to be second.

I had mixed feelings about the GMK Suit because I thought it looked kinda fake due to the lack of pupils (Back then I only saw the production stills), but when I saw the suit in action, my opinion changed.

I had mixed feelings about the Legendary design because I thought the head looked off ( I was too used to the Heisei and Millenium suits), but again when I saw it in action, my opinion changed.

But I'm not sure if seeing this suit in action would change my opinion. To be fair this is a butt ugly design, It doesn't feel like Godzilla, I mean the other suits have various designs good or bad, but at least they felt like Godzilla, this design feels more at home in something like Death Note or Fullmetal Alchemist.

When I think of a destructive Godzilla design, I think of something like the 1954 suit, except with longer fangs, sharper dorsal fins with a little bit of decay, a permanent scowl on his face, and fiery eyes.

My Comment in a nutshell: "Excuse me Mr. Bar Maid. I ordered a Godzilla design, with sharp dorsal plates, beefy arms, and awesome on the side. This! This Is A Walking Fish Bone!"

If he's supposed to be a screwed up-looking Zombie Godzilla, then this suit certainly does its job. But if this suit is intended to represent a regular ol' Godzilla, then it's pretty darn terrible.

I think he looks really intense.

The face is a nightmare, and the way the musculature is shown as very raw and taught, like he's been been starving in a wasteland, aside from being scarred and mutated. This looks like a Godzilla that's gone through the nuclear ringer, left feral and savage.
The impression I get from the images above is that there's a scene where he's still suffering the damages of his mutation, his outer dermis layers burned off, explaining the points like his wrist that look oddly thin.
This won't be a Godzilla we've ever seen before. I am of the firm opinion that Godzilla isn't limited in range, and can occupy virtually any type of story, from fun campy children's adventures, PG13 action & explosions, to nightmarish worlds of fire and uncertainty.

Bring it on Toho.

The overall design just looks.... Meh, for me it's the arms, they just seam too small and skinny. Also is it just me or does the neck look too long, I mean I know that is were the actors head goes, but it just looks off to me.

3663327

If there is a scene he looks really messed up and decaying, this will work for it. But to echo Lance, if this is how he normally looks I honestly feel like the ball got dropped. It's supposed to be scary looking and it has traits to support that. The problem is I feel like this design has too much going on with it. The fang packed jaws can work, the exposed muscle can work, and weird proportions could even work. The problem is they don't work well together for me. It's like when someone tries to make an over elaborate OC, adding in too many distinct traits to something's look eventually can ruin it by just making it look cluttered. And cluttered in this case to the point it ruins the scare factor.

Godzilla can be looked through dozens of different lenses, but I feel like he's best displayed when his simple design is maintained. And that is something we see throughout the earlier series and even the 2014 movie. He'll look distinct in each movie, but often there is only two or three small tweaks to his design.

3664342 if this turns out to be legit, oh thank Tanaka!

I'm not feeling it either he looks like a mummy made out of beef jerky.

I just had an apifiny mabye this is another movie that takes place after the first and this body is the result of regenerating from the skeleton left after the oxygen destroyer.

Ouch, it's look more like a zombified Godzilla.

That red, the no lid eyes, the jagged teeth coming out of everywhere, I expect this more coming from a mutant dinosaur from the Dino Crisis series games.

Am I the only person who absolutely adores the design? It's scary for me because I really don't like small things on a large body. The arms and eyes basically do it for me. Also, the teeth and the fact that it's jaw can hinge off like a snake definitely help in the spookiness factor. 10/10. It's my favorite design so far.

As a fan of Evangelion, I can safely say that Anno does like to go the "dark" route when it comes to his story-telling, especially in regards to his recent addition of Evangelion Rebuild, where Shinji pretty much DESTROYED the entire world in an attempt to save Rei Ayanami. Yeah, not exactly a fan of the series right now, I can tell you. At least I have the original to look upon. Still, while Anno has been known to produce "dark and depressing works", he's not below making Happy Series, like Kara Kano. And even though his stories may seem bleak, they seem to have the trend of providing a "hopeful ending". Maybe not a "wrapped up in a bow" ending, but the possibility of a happy ending. Anno's stories tend to be more about the journey then the end result, so will have to see if this movie goes a similar route with the 1954 movie, and provide a hopeful ending that can imply that humanity can revive from this Godzilla's onslaught.

They made 3 suits, I hear. So I'm just gonna guess that this is when he had just been mutated from the radiation. I'm betting all those exposed muscles won't be like that the whole movie.

I mainly agree with you on that it looks like someone tried too hard to be scary, but then again, look at him. He looks like he's suffered what would be 3rd degree burns on a normal person. The skin would be black and red, and some parts of the musculature would be showing. So, if the story for that suit is that he's been burned bad enough to the equivalent of a 3rd degree on a human, I could see that. And if you don't believe me, look up some images. All that's missing on Goji here are some (warning, bout to get a little descriptive) pus filled sacs which can burst at any moment, along with bones, ligaments, and tendons showing.

Any1 else getting that zombie feel or is it just me?
