Night and day; the comple opposites and yet you can't have one without the other. The light cannot shine so bright if there is no darkness to contrast it. And Equestria seems to believe that to be the case. The rule of the Royal Sisters has been a topic of disscussion within the fandom for quite some time now. One side states that New Lunar Republic is neccessary while another side advocates the rule of the Solar Empire. My stance on this issue should be pretty clear by title of the blog alone, but I will try to dwell deeper and explain why I find the current state of Equestria to be the most optimal state.
Before we begin I'd like to share with you a video made by SilverQuill (I hope I spelled the name right) called Lovable Luna, since I will be using it as a reference to some of the points I am going to make. In it he explores both Luna's character and dwells a bit about her relationship with Celestia. Here it is:

Alright, now that we have that out of the way, lets begin our exploration.
In order to properly look at the Diarchy we must first observe the characters of Luna and Celestia. Both these princesses have their virtues and their flaws that will help us understand their rule. So lets begin shall we?
The first pony we will look at is the one and only solar ruler of Equestria, her royal high supreme, Princess demigod Celestia.
Celestia is often times viewed as the definition of perfection. She is idolized by ponies all around and seen as a near god like creature to them. She has been a sole ruler for over a thousand years, defeating an battling many monstrosities that came to challenge her rule, so it would only seem fitting that she rules alone, right? Well, not exactly...
The fact that she is seen as such perfection puts a lot of pressure on her shoulders and hinders her interaction with her subjects. We have seen that she has quite the fun loving personality and can be a bit of a 'troll' at times. However her duties are to the kingdom at large and to her ponies as a whole, at least in my opinion. This is why she is the first pony to know about the return of the Crystal Empire and of Tirek's escape. She always has a plan, but sometimes it can come off as too risky. Sending Twilight and her friends alone to face King Sombra was one of those cases. As well as it did work out in the end, it could have ended horribly as we have seen Sombra getting the better of Twilight. While she is well meaning and a kind pony her ideas need to be challenged and the only pony to do that is of course her sister, princess Luna.
As night is opposite to day so is Princess Luna opposite to her sister. Luna is very passionate and direct in her approach, while Celestia can come off as passive and distant. She wants to help ponies first hoof and is quick to be involved in the lives of her subjects. Her direct involvment with the CMC showed how much she loves her subjects and how willing she is to help them out.
A point Silver Quill made (with which I agree with completely) is that Luna is the only pony who can question Celestia's judgement. She sees things from a different perspective which could cause Celestia to reconsider her decisions further down the line. However, she too is not without flaws.
Luna's emotions, her greatest strength, might also be Luna's greatest downfall as a ruler. She is much more passionate, but also much more rash and quick to jump to actions, than Celestia. While such a call s neccessary in certain situations, it could lead to her downfall in another. Another problem Luna's sole rule would have was the fact that up until season 5 she had not forgiven herself for her Nightmare Moon past. Her past could still haunt her to this day and the fact she is so scared of failure could prevent her from achieving her full potential as a sole ruler.
Luckily she is not a sole ruler as we have seen Celestia being a huge support to Luna. Much like the yin and yang so too do the Royal Regals go together. Luna is hot headed and thinks that actions speak louder than words, while Celestia is much more level headed and seeks a diplomatic way out of any problem (as can be seen when dealing with the Yak Yakistan representitives). Bth rulers complement each other nicely and cover for one another's flaws. Sometimes as ruler you need a quick decision while other times you need a more calm and rational decision. Just like the celestial objects they represent one cannot be without the other adn that is the beauty of their reign. up until Luna's return Celestia had felt a big emptyness in her life which is why she accepted her sister after ehr return. It's also rather interesting how much different these two are from the celestial bodies they control. The calm Celestia controls the heated burning Sun while the passionated Luna control the cold Moon. It really does represent the Harmony they promote as it is a concept of helping others with their flaws and making them stronger by presenting an opposing viewpoint.
And that was my little exploration about my favortie topic the Royal Sister. Both Luna and Celestia have fascinated me for a long time now and this topic has been turning in my head for quite a while so i thought I should put in ablog. Anyway, i really want to hear your opinions on the topic. Are youa member of The New Lunar Republic, The Solar Republic or in support of Diarchal rule? Is there anything I forgot to add in this blog? Any ideas or theories you guys might have are always welcomed here and I will see you all very soon. Until then remember:
ALL HAIL THE REGAL SISTER!
