Villains and New Story · 6:51am Dec 28th, 2015
I've been absent for the most part, haven't I? Well, I'm not the quickest gunslinger in these here parts, but I've still got some things up my sleeve.
First off: Villains is completed. Well, the first draft of it. It's not something I'm all that proud of at the moment, which is sort of the problem. I want to at least post the finished chapters, but I don't want them to be hard to read or too unjoyable. I know they're crappy, and that it shouldn't matter because it's all about improving-- but the problem is I've sort of lost the steam/willpower to go back to that project and fix it. I think I've dragged it out for too long, you know? At this point, I've learned some lessons from it, and I'm glad I wrote it just for the experience, but the ending tries to do way too much, among other things, and it's sort of a clusterf*ck, if you'll pardon the language.
Anyway, I think I'll try to post it, but like I said, it's hard to drag myself back to it to do the editing the last few chapters need to at least be readable. I'll try to push myself when I have the time (after family get togethers).
Also, as the title says, I'm working on a new story, and the best part? The first draft is almost done! Three more chapters, and it'll be ready for revision! NaNoPoMo really kicked my butt into gear and continuing it into December has gotten my closer than I ever thought I could be in two months. It's just 13 chapters overall, and it's another weirdly big idea that I hope to edit into something people can actually enjoy: a 13-episode fan season. So far it doesn't read like the show, and I don't know if it ever will, but it's structured that way. If it had a theme, (like Cutie Mark Magic) the theme would definitely be sacrifice. Uh, not, like, cult sacrifices, but the kind that's good for storytelling.
Oh, and I'm not under some illusions of grandeur (not anymore than usual at least): I'm going to try to make it clear that it's just something I did for fun, and that it's not like I actually think I can write anywhere near as well as the writing on the show. Or, most of the writers on this site, for that matter. The reason I chose to do a "fan season" was just so I could use the structure for the story I want to tell. I'm an egomaniac, not a moron.
Well-
So that's what's up with me. I'm excited to dig into the revision process, and I'm sorry Villains ended up coming out on such a terrible schedule. Still, I'll be looking forward to when I can see that wonderful word I've been working towards for almost two whole years now: Completed.
