Encouraging Word of the Week 18: Don't hang up

Today to open this Encouraging Word I have a story for you. A story of last night.
Last night my family and I went caroling with some of my neighborhood. We all met at some neighbors' house and sang some carols and put together some plates of cookies. We then split up to sing carols to other families of the neighborhood and bring them treats. What was wrong in all this?
Trying to help put the plates together, I dropped one. It was at that moment I saw. In all my attempts, in all my intent to do something good for something else all I had accomplished was to get in the way. It was because of me that one less family was going to get a visit that night.
I suddenly realized what negative thoughts were overtaking my mind. I backed up, saw the bigger picture - and I realized how fragile my self-esteem truly was.
So much for practicing what I preach.
Don't worry about me, friend. Caroling shortly after brought Christmas cheer surging into my heart, and things took a rapid turn upwards. The plate I'd dropped had even worked out. My sister, busy playing in the snow, didn't get any of the brownies my family brought for the carolers. That plate I'd dropped still had some good treats in it, so she could still get some.
My point in telling you this, friend, is don't worry about what you're capable of. Don't worry about your personal worth; that was never in question and never will be. It's okay to mess up, to make mistakes. If your heart is right, if your intent is good, if you keep your eyes on the light everything will work out.
Everything.
