Went to visit my father today. He was...
He was bad. There was nothing left of the vibrant, joyous, colorful man I used to know.
The doctor called my Aunt and I in. He told us his condition. Pneumonia, fungal infection, complete paralysis, among other problems.
So bad was it, he said that there was nothing that could be done for him. That the best they could do was to prolong his condition until he died of something else.
He was sedated on a breathing tube and had a food tube stuck up his nose.
I...
I made the call...
He wouldn't have wanted to live like that. He got so much joy out of life...
The doctor gave him hours.
I pray to God I've done the right thing...

Believe me when I say I went through a similar experience you’re having with my Uncle.
He tried to commit suicide and after that he couldn’t move at all his throat wound (tried to slit his throat) looked awful.
My dad gave the word to put him off of life support so he wouldn’t suffer anymore.
I slept in my dads car and when I woke the next morning my Uncle passed.

I am very sorry for your loss. No advice I can give or ever could offer will ease your pain, but one thing I can offer is something my grandfather told me right before he passed. Do not let this pain eat you. Channel it, use it, focus it into something worthwhile. Just as your father would not have wanted to live like that, he would not want you to live in pain for his passing. He would want joy to return to your life, I know because I am a father, and I would want my children to celebrate the life I had, and remember that I love them and then let happiness return to their life.

I'm sorry for your loss. Like I said in my reply to your previous blog entry, I too lost my dad this year and like you I had to make the call as well. At least you have your aunt, I was alone when I made the call. Treasure the memories you have about him.
Sorry that the decision had to fall on your shoulders, but from what you've said of your dad here and in your other blogs, you made the right choice. Just fuckin' blows it's not the happy one

Aw, man. There isn't a thing I can say or do to make this right or feel better. All I can do is offer my condolences.
It is a dreadful duty we leave to our kin. None can tell you what the right choice is, only that it was right that you make the decision.
Condolences from the words of faceless strangers are of little comfort in times like these, but I can only hope that someday, my kids will be as brave as you.
Take solace in his memory and live well.

I lost my grandfather this June, the best advice I can give you is to let your tears come as they will, but not to forget about all the good times you had with him.
I know how hard it is to lose a parent. I just hope that you remember that we're still here for you, and we'll do anything we can to help. Even if it's just something like a thumbs up or something.
