Was doing some jotting-down of lore for a "crossover story" I want to write in the near future. Thought I might share it cause why not. (In case you were wondering, yes, this is meant to be a Warframe crossover.)

Equokin Era
The Equokin Empire now rules over the Origin System, with numerous outposts dotting many of the system’s planets and cosmic oddities. They spend a great deal of time taking samples from the once-civilized lands of Equus, which was subject to the infestation of an unknown “bioenhancement” thousands of years ago. They also begin rebuilding the lost species of animals that once inhabited Equus, which leads to the creation of servant animals like the Kubrow.

The Old War
The Equokin come into battle with another race of beings called the Nightmare. The Equokin deploy their highly-advanced technology to fight against them, only for the Nightmare to subvert their technology. Finally realizing that the current attempts at fighting the Nightmare is futile, the Equokin begin issuing low-tech weapons to their soldiers (one of them being Luna). Luna is captured by the Nightmare and taken away to an unknown place.

With the failure of the low-tech soldier option, and Luna’s capture, the Equokin begin infecting a large part of their population with a reverse-engineered strain of the bioenhancement that was found on Equus. The resulting infestation, its adaptation of a hivemind, and its failure to subvert spectral beings makes the Equokin very desperate in their plight to fight the Nightmare.

They turn to Celestia, the only remaining kin of the kidnapped Luna. They take her and throw her into a ship going to the Void. Others join her, including her most dedicated pupil, out of devotion to their just leader. Countless ponies die on the voyage through the Void, but those that come back are were able to channel raw Void energy. The Equokin quickly began crafting Warframes around these twisted individuals. Codenamed “Tenno”, these warrior ponies were turned upon the Nightmare with stunning results.

Unbeknownst to the Equokin, however, was that the Nightmare had finally created their ultimate weapon to defeat them: Cambia.

The Collapse
Cambia is the product of the Nightmare corrupting Luna and sending her back to gain control of the Tenno. During the corruption process, her upper face was scarred and maimed, which results in her donning a helmet that hides her eyes. When she gains control of the Tenno, she manages to link with her sister. After seeing what’d been done to her, as well as the rest of the ponies that followed her into the Void, she told herself that she would betray the Nightmare and avenge her friend’s misery.

The Tenno emerge victorious after pushing destroying the Outer Terminus - the entry point into the Origin System. However, Luna has a surprise awaiting the Equokin when her friends return to be crowned heroes (this includes upgrading the Warframes to their Prime state for the great ceremony).

Six beats of a drum were to be beat in honoring the Tenno, each signifying a principle of the Tenno Way. On the sixth beat, Luna instructed the Tenno to slaughter the Equokin, ending their reign of the solar system.

What remains after the slaughter of Equokin goes in five different directions. The Tenno, their objective complete, are put into cryogenic rest by Luna. The builders and miners of the Equokin take their industrial knowledge and go on to form the Hive, a dominion of changeling clones with rapidly deteriorating bodies from extensive cloning procedures. Those with knowledge of the Equokin’s genetic projects and wealth go on to form the Conglomerate and worship money and any relics left from the Old War. The untamed Infestation starts raking in numbers by overtaking hosts from what remains of the population. Those that escape the Infestation come together to form the six Syndicates.
