I'm back from the funeral for my bro's friend.
The ride to the Milton Crematorium/Chapel was strangely symbolic; every animal the car went past was black. I saw black dogs, black cats, black crows all the way there, which painted the theme of today's subject well enough. Then when we arrived at the place, I saw white dogs and birds, and it just symbolized an idea of happiness to me. That this wasn't meant to be a day to be sad but rather be happy and thankful for the life of a young soul, sadly taken from us so early in life yet a soul who would never have wanted his family and friends to weep and grieve forever for him.
His coffin was amazing. A blue paint job with a guitar image. I never knew he was into music, let alone was part of his own 'band' of sorts. The building roared with the sounds of Johnny Cash's music, and a rendition of the song 'House of the Rising Sun' created by the departed himself. My bro held himself together very well, and even me and my family came close to crying ourselves.
It's funny really. Looking back on my interactions with the guy, I now remember his smile. How pleasant it was to see. How cheerful it made others feel. Perhaps...perhaps that is what I will remember him most by and for; that happy warm smile of his.
Well, wherever you are now Craig, I hope you're going to practice your guitar skills. I want a good performance out of you when my time comes, you hear?
