I shouldn't say when this or that will happen anymore, hah · 1:40am Dec 4th, 2015
It never happens when I say it will.
Progress for The Guard And His Sword has been slow. I've been slacking off on it, and writing in general. I need to get back into the habit of writing 1000 words per day, as it's not really that hard. I will say the rewrite for A Change of Seasons has been rather hard. There's a lot of changes I've made, lots of things excluded, events shifted around, some moments added. It means there will be more changes I'll have to make in the future. First chapter of A Shield Contingency will likely have to be completely rewritten, and most of the second. I want to get rid of the story with the zebra Valhalla. It deviates a lot from the show in terms of theme, and has way too much headcanon for my tastes. And since I'll be changing that, more things with the sword have to change. The way Swordulan gets his cutie mark back has to change. Soo yeah. A lot to do with the story.
But, I feel it'll be worth it. I think it'll mesh with the show better and have a better flow to Swordulan's confusing life. I've been giving it a great deal of thought, and it's so strange to say that I think he's one of the best and most in-depth characters I've ever written. I suppose that comes from his life story being a majority of my writing (I've only got around 50k~75k words of other original fiction, and the largest story from that is 36k or so), but still. I read back on A Shield Contingency, the last few chapters anyway, and it genuinely makes me happy seeing Swordulan making progress and being excited about something for once, all to be torn down by more problems with family. It's crazy. The Story of a Royal Guard is the first long story I've written that has multiple plot-lines to it.
One of these days, I'll finish it. That day won't come until after the end of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and woe to the day it ends, but it will come, I hope. And I hope it can be a happy ending. Swordulan definitely deserves one.
