The Bed Bug Issue Continues On · 4:03pm Nov 30th, 2015
This whole bed bug thing has been a nightmare. The apartment people gave us the wrong preparation list to begin so we had to go an additional week living with the bed bugs while we followed the instructions on the real list. The pest control company has now come and sprayed the apartment two times. But they didn't do that good job the second time around. Meanwhile, we have been living in our living room for a month and a half now. Our stuff is still in plastic containers. Our dishes and other supplies from the kitchen and bathrooms is being stored in the backs of our cars. This morning we just found another bed bug in the bathroom which means that the people are probably going to have to come spray again.
We found out that the neighbors upstairs were the people who brought the bed bugs and gave them to us. The guy upstairs told two of our neighbors before he left that he was moving because his roommate brought the bugs and his apartment became infested. So we got majorly infested with bed bugs (to the point where they were swarming in our hair, no joke) because he moved without taking care of the problem. But the sucky thing is that the apartment is holding us responsible for all of the damage caused by something the neighbor did. So we are being forced to pay for the spraying and things that were brought in by the other people.
This doesn't even include all of the furniture, clothes, bed dressings, and other items we have had to throw away that we can't afford to replace at the moment. Or all of the bug spray we have had to purchase to make sure that everything we have left in the apartment that we already haven't had to throw away is sprayed consistently (between treatments) to make sure that the bugs don't come back again. Overall, this hasn't been a fun experience. I think if I move somewhere in the future I will be sure to ask if they take care of bed bug or other infestation issues before I move in. It also makes me want to look into some kind of insurance plan for pests if such a thing exists because this has become a very expensive problem that was unfortunately brought in by other people.

3581619 Yeah, things have been pretty crazy around here for the past couple of months. We are doing our best to contain the problem a little bit at a time. But we really haven't gotten much help from the apartment people in this matter even though the infestation level is extremely high. I'm remaining optimistic that we will be able to take care of everything though with enough determination and bed beg treatments.
Back when I lived in a dorm, my room had a bed bug scare. I don't think we ever actually had bed bugs, but it sucked nonetheless; had to run all of our fabrics, multiple times, stayed up incredibly late, had to shower and change down in our recreation hall... and still head to work early the next day.
I can't say I envy you your situation. Bed bugs are suck.
You're calling people who deal specifically with bed bugs and not a generic exterminator, right? Bed bugs are extremely resilient to common pesticides if not outright immune.

First, the property owner/landlord can't hold you responsible for that infestation. As you know, pest control is expensive and the landlord's trying to pull a fast one on you by trying to make you pay for it.
First order of business, get a lawyer and sue the shit out of that landlord! Since the infestation is not your fault-- Not anyone's fault, really-- The court will recognize immediately what's happening and you'll win! In the case demand restitution for any and all monies you've already had to pay out plus damages for such things ans grievous inconvenience plus pain and suffering. Best to talk to a lawyer about those kinds of things as that lawyer would know best how to formulate an effective legal theory that would allow you to win.
Having dealt with this problem, ourselves, my wife and I are well familiar with the best ways to most effectively deal with and conclusively end the problem. Best of luck to you with this problem.
3581646 I am sorry that you have had to go through something similar. It definitely isn't fun to have to wash your clothes over and over and run everything you own through the dryer continually each day. I'm already cringing just at the thought of how high our electricity bill is going to be.
3581650 Yeah, we have called a company that specializes in bed bugs (who works through the apartment office) but they really haven't done the best job on the occasions that they were sent out to spray the apartment.

3581670 Thank you for the legal advice. We are going to contact a lawyer as soon as we take care of some other things around here. I mean this has effected our sleep as we have essentially had to sleep on the couches for a month and a half. It has also effected us going to work because we have to stop while they spray (and don't even do a good job) and go somewhere, but come back and make sure the apartment is secure four hours later. So basically we have to take days off of working for that. Then we have to deal with finding these things everywhere. And the real kicker is they keep trying to say it is our fault when we have proof from the two neighbors who live on either side of us that the neighbor upstairs brought them into his apartment in the first place. We got signed written statements from them both and they agreed to talk to the apartment about this at some point this week. In any case, it has been a real nightmare. We have lost a lot of our clothes, furniture, and personal items. I have had to throw away all of my craft supplies, which I use for my craft business, so that effects me financially. And we don't have the money to replace this stuff as we are kind of financially struggling as it is. Basically this all came at the worst possible time.

I'm so sorry about that! Man a couple years ago my god parents and god sisters had a massive bedbug infestation in their Duplex (the other people brought them) and they had to stay with us for a whole month! It was frustrating
