It seems odd to me that I've never seen a single story where the Equestria Girls go through the looking glass. I've seen Sunset Shimmer do it. I've seen Adagio Dazzle do it. But those are returns; not someone new. I think there's a lot of potential (hijinks, adventure, comedy) in the concept but it simply hasn't been touched at all! Why? Could it be general disdain for EQG that's prevented this from taking off?
Setting aside the "why" of the matter, I was also thinking that the human counterparts to the Mane Six might not be the same type of pony if they came through. Maybe Dash would end up an Earth Pony. Is Pinkie as a pegasus too obvious? Fluttershy could make a decent unicorn. Heck, why restrict it to ponies? Consider Preppy Sparkle as a newly-minted draconequus after the lovely chaos sown during Friendship Games! There's plenty of ways things could go.
And what would they do? An adventure where they're the "backup" elements? Fleeing from some Earth-side disaster? Simple curiosity and no one expected them? Maybe it wasn't even all of them. Do they want to stay from the start? How about at the end? (Giving up your own world and body is a heavy subject, but I know there are writers around who can give it due gravitas.) Sky's the limit.
Heck, I'll even accept that maybe they wouldn't become ponies at all. That could also be intersting.
Excuse me, but I would appreciate you vacating my head, as I have had pretty much the same idea. Rude
But seriously, I would also like to see this concept explored. I think part of the problem is that there's already pony versions of the characters. Still plenty of room for story possibilities, but maybe not as obvious as bringing in Sunset or the sirens, characters that don't exist in Equestria at all. Plus there's the allure of the returning home story line, which can make for a powerful story (or a cheap grab for emotion depending on how cynical you are)
As far as who would be what type of pony, I like the idea of them not being the same as their counterparts, hadn't thought of that. Rainbow and Fluttershy have wings when they pony up though, so that's probably a clear indication for them, and that none of the others are pegasi.
If you haven't seen it yet, Principal of Equestria is about Principal Celestia going to Equestria.

Well, that didn't stop Twilight from meeting herself...
Fabricate mumbo jumbo about them acting as anchor points that allow the other bearers to be expressed through them, so their true pony soul is a separate issue. Or blame Eirin's shady drug.
Thanks. It was on my reading list, but I bumped it up and burned through it. It's...well, it's a thing. Amusing, but I'm not sure I like how cluttered it is. I'll keep watching.
