[Spoilers] Season Finale VS The Trioverse! · 9:21pm Nov 29th, 2015
Massive spoilers ahead. Make sure to check out the season finale before checking this post out!
So yeah, since this finale had a few things relative to the Trioverse, so I figured I'd share my thoughts with you.
Let's start with the big important thing that cannot be undone or everypony loses: The Sonic Rainboom.
There was no rainboom in the 'verse.
Guess that means one of those alternate timelines we were priveed to is making its way into the 'verse!
Or not really.
Those alternate timelines were triggered by changing an event a small number of years in the past, somewhere over ten but less than twenty.
The Trioverse' triggering event takes place sometime before the two sister's fought.
So, no rainboom, no problem.
Since it takes me forever to get content out, if you wanna know why there wasn't a sonic rainboom in the Trioverse, spoilers here:
RD idolizes the Shadowbolts, who are presented more as heroes over strong/awesome athletes. Long story short, when she races to defend Flutter's honor, she notices the fact that Fluttershy was knocked off the cloud, and throws the race to rescue her. A Shadowbolt notices this and compliments her actions.
Now, let's move on to the time travel bit. Personally, I love time travel in my cartoons, so this finale got some easy bonus points from me! At least +12 cookie points!
The time travel they presented worked with three components:
Unicorn Magic.
Cutie-Map.
Starswirl's Timie-Wimie Spell.
While my 'verse has plenty of unicorn magic, it's sort of lacking the other two. Yep, in the Trioverse, Starswirl never finished this spell, along with a certain cutie-mark swapping spell.
Now, the fun part, the alternate timelines!
Sombra:
I sort of had a fan-gasm when I saw this. Sombra going to war with Equestria is what I had in store in the 'verse, taking place right before Shadow's Flare. Ironically, the show's depiction is darker than what I had in mind for the war.
Prosthetics are now cannon?
I really loved the jaded looks for Pinkie and Dashie.
Chrysie:
Confound it! They can ignore size limitations!
Seems like Chrys and her swarm have had plenty of time in the five hundred years or so to polish the shapeshifting seen in The Teal Changeling.
It was nice to see her winning.
Also, Zecora! I need to give her an important spot in my 'verse!
*Applies magic facepaint, instantly realizes that this is a false timeline and completely puts faith in that realization.*
Seriously, this is why she is best Zebra.
Nightmare Moon:
Is it just me, or does NM come off as the most... cartoony of the villains?
Your thoughts, Shadow Flare?
“She banished Celestia! There's no way we're the same pony!”
Well, that's kind of complicated, but fair enough.
“...Though I would have probably done the same thing she did.”
Blow up a timberwolf?
“...Yes. That's exactly what I was referring too.”
Tirek:
“I HATE TREES!”
Don't expect to see much, or any of this villain in the Trioverse.
Discord:
“I was wondering when you'd get to me!”
Yeah, still working on that, now get back in your statue.
“Hmmph! You're no fun!”
No. No I'm not.
Flim and- Wait what?
That's just silly! Flim and Flam are completely reasonable business ponies just trying to get ahead in a pony eat pony world.
Besides, in my 'verse, they'd end up upsetting some of their friends if they did what we saw in this timeline.
Not Fallout Equestria timeline:
It really isn't. I'll point out that the megaspells went off a couple decades after the show's current present. At the show's current present, I don't even think the resource wars have even begun in FoE's timeline!
That aside, out of all the timelines, the tone of this one really hit home. It felt more glum than Sombra's, which had more violence and darker themes in it.
So those were the alternate worldlines timelines, and I thoroughly enjoyed Twilight and Spike's journey through them!
So yeah, that was the finale. I'm sort of looking forward to whenever I get to writing about Sombra's war.
Man, a year till the next season? Well, I can wait.
…
Why do I feel like I'm forgetting something?
Oh, right! I almost forgot the most important character!
Spike! What would Twilight do without you!
“...Hey, noodle-head...”
Yes Discord?
“Just gonna leave this little present for you, don't mind me~!”
What, you assumed I forgot?
Starlight. Was. Awesome! Seeing her in action reminded me of what I loved about her character:
She's got teeth.
I'm hoping that carries over into being a heroine!
Watching her in action, seeing her motivation, witnessing her taking Twilight's hoof as the rainboom went off, I loved every bit of it.
...Doesn't change the fact that she's a villain in the Trioverse.
That's right, I know where she is, and what she's doing. And though she won't always be a villain, she'll easily be one longer than in the show.
Speaking of the show, I'd really, really love to see her put her quick acting pragmatism to work on the next villain to come the show's way.
Now I can't help but imagine how the Tirek and Twilight fight would have gone down if Starlight was in Twilight's place.
So that was the finale, and it was amazing.
Did you enjoy it? Are you looking forward to what Starlight could bring to the table?
Oh! Character insight!
When Sunburst left her life, she didn't hold it against him, but cutie-marks. I'd like to see an 'Amending Fences' episode for Starlight and Sunburst.
Goodness I've written a lot for this unfiltered blog post, so here it is:
Cannon wins. Cannon always wins.
Anyway, the hiatus is here everypony! Hopefully we'll all be here when it's over.
I'm sure it was intentionally put there as a joke.
Either that or the writers wanted an industrial based dsitopia and the brothers where the only existing choice for it.
Exactly what I've been saying!
My favorite theory so far for that one is that it's the timeline that had a parasprite grey goo scenario.
Maybe the changelings can only transform to something smaller than themselves, but with some limitation on how much smaller they can become as well (like for queen Chrysalis seen in the episode, maybe a filly would have been OK)? Also we only ever see Chrysalis transforming into something outside her 'weight' class, so maybe the ability to ignore mass limitations is limited to Queens?
I mean we never see changelings become para-sprites or birds to infiltrate places or become some huge creature like a hydra to gain a combat advantage, so I'd say it's relatively safe to assume that there are some kind of limitations in place even if its not the mass limitation present in the trio-verse.
