Starlight's Punishment · 1:51am Nov 29th, 2015
You know, I've been seeing a lot of people complain about the way Starlight was handled in the end. They aren't thinking about it enough. Twilight and her friends themselves stated that Starlight is too powerful to be left alone. Perhaps that even includes in a cell. Think about it. Really think about it. Starlight is powerful enough to levitate herself and FUCKING FLY. You ever seen another unicorn fly that didn't have magic wings? Starlight is a badass villain. What better way to deal with a badass villain than to recruit them? What better way to keep tabs on a dangerous criminal than to befriend them? As a man I greatly respect once said: "Am I not defeating my enemies when I make friends of them?"
Starlight did not just get off Scott-free. She's being watched very closely by the protectors of Equestria. I'm not saying that the friendship they'll share is false-FUCK no. I have no doubt it'll be real (real fucking cute). But this is still a good way to placate a powerful enemy and make sure that they are on the right side when the time comes that her aid is needed.
That's all I wanted to say.
With Love,

I agree. My main complaint about Starlight in the finale was that her origin was too quick, too mundane, and her turnabout too quick. Still, I'll miss having her as a villain simply because she was my favorite villain of the series after Discord.
Seriously, her outward charm and charisma, the fact that she was a well-intentioned extremist rather than a would-be conqueror, and especially her crazy-as-hell moments.
Still, if we get to see her every now and again, I can't complain about that. I really hope she's just an occasional supporting character, though. I don't want her to be in the main cast and throw off the dynamic too far. Eh, guess we'll find out in Season 6!
3634545 Personally, I feel like there are a lot of factors in Starlight's past that were glossed over. Yeah, we saw her friend get his cutie mark, and we're told he got shipped off to Canterlot, and that they lost touch. But what if she tried to keep in touch? Why if Sunburst just snubbed her? It could be like what happened with the CMC and Twist when she got her cutie mark. She just kind of stopped hanging out with Apple Bloom. I know for a fact rejection hurts. We only saw the beginning of her pain, not all of it. There's a lot we don't know about Sunburst and Starlight in terms of what happened during that time.
3635281 Yeah, but it doesn't take that much. We realistically didn't get that much more about Moondancer, but we got just enough and she was REALLY effective in her episode. Starlight has some room to build upon, but I honestly felt like we could have cut a little from the episode to see just like, say, 30 seconds more of her backstory, and I think it would have driven it home. I realize that's a hard call, but I would have cut out the song (as much as I love Daniel Ingram's work, that end song was pretty damn forgettable).
I agree she has more potential to grow, but just on the basis of this episode by itself, I thought the reformation was the weakest aspect of an otherwise amazing finale. Had they checked their pacing a little, they could have made an awesome fanfic-inducing finale AND left us with something that felt a little more heartfelt.
But that's just my two bits.
