Reread and thoughtful re-experience of Solitary Locust chapter one, Changeling Magic · 7:41pm Nov 23rd, 2015
The Parasprite recently announced that they would be leaving FimFiction for the time being and leaving their account forever; for more information please read their blog.
In light of this I wanted to tell them how much I appreciated their story Solitary Locust witch I told them in a comment on the blog linked above and where I said I would reread the entire story to solidify my feelings about it. In the original comment I did not say I would be recording my thoughts after every chapter but I that is what I now intend to do so here it is, chapter one.
I really enjoyed how "downhome" the begging of the chapter is with all the characters being introduced in ones and twos with funny dialog like Pinkies rendition of the time she and Applejack went to see BatMare. If the chapter and the story as a whole was shorter I may have criticized how much time was spent on "small talk" and small details that made each scene feel longer that in the show and in most written works but since the whole story has this trait and this gives it a bit of a "fat" feeling for me but regardless these scenes do not feel out of place because of it.
When Twilight does get on to stage is when the chapter really shines in my opinion; when Twilight starts to panic she does not identify it as such and continues to rationalize it witch is presented in a very believable that feels almost unchanged when compared to how one might write a season five Twilight and demonstrates how little she has changed in this respect over the years.
The changeling transformation scene is much how I remember it from the first time I read it however I did not remember Twilight breaking her leg like she did, I just remembered that she escaped and that it exhausted her but assumed she had broken it latter on and that she had it for most of the story.
In all I enjoyed the chapter, although I feel that none of the fat can really be removed without removing part of the stories Identity I some times feel like I am moving through the stories plot at a snails pace. Also, Monty python joke is best joke.
