Get Hyped: RCL feature & Pretentious Coffee Cup · 7:16am Nov 23rd, 2015

Pipsqueak the Valiant's Adventure Journal! has been accepted into the Royal Canterlot Library! Another bout of thanks for the kind folks there who found it worth reading. For the interview on some personal and behind-the-scenes stuff, check out the link, or the notification next week when it comes to Fimfic.

I finished my final exam two days ago, and by final I mean final (if I'm not doing a Masters).

As such, I've finally run out of excuses to not finish this. You may faintly remember me mentioning it under the name Pretentious Coffee Cup, which I think is a much more fitting name, but here it is: the first chapter of Scald is going up when the mods approve it.

Now, this is a little different from my other work. PtVAJ! and Honest Pony were written for contests, and Life and Times was written because I wanted to.

Scald was birthed purely from writer's block. As in, it was started with a vague idea on how to begin, with nothing but the feel of an atmosphere Korean tea parlor drama. It was not written in fits of inspiration*; a majority of sentences were forced into whatever shape the flow demanded, written just for the sake of writing. It is incredibly pretentious, both in purpose and in execution, and is probably one of the more demanding works I've done. And I've written stuff that requires you to believe Derpy was raised underground.

It is, however, very nearly finished. Originally intended as a oneshot, I figured the reading load would be a bit too off-putting and so decided to adopt the serialization method.

Scald was also a failed experiment in discipline. "I hate that I disappointed Caughlin fans, so I promise to finish whatever I write before I publish," I thought to myself, and the result is probably a year(?) of inactivity. This is enough proof to show me that the model doesn't work for myself, and that's fine. And so Act 2, another 4-5k words of the 12k+ written, will be released in two or three days, with the third chapter bringing it to completion. I still have to finish the resolution, which, believe it or not, is harder to pull off than the rest combined, but hopefully the publication will give me enough spur to end it.

In a way, the circumstances of Scald's creation, its very being, and the characters it presents are very similar to each other. You'll see what I mean.

I do hope you enjoy it - if you do check it out, don't forget to let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

*A small caveat is that I have always wanted to write something like this, it was just the act of actually writing it was bleh.

When I can bring myself to give it the Bad End. =x

I haven't stopped thinking about it, but it's the sort of guilty remembrance that you get when you talk to someone you had secretly wished to kill. The original idea I had was literally lost - the piece of paper vanished somehow - and it's, well, not as feasible as I thought when I had conceived it.

Maybe "bad end" is an exaggeration. But from what I can tell, it needs another 25-35k to be truly satisfying, or I could make an easier commitment of maximum 20k that at least I could see through. i've only been free for a few days

Whichever way, though, the next two months is the period with the highest likelihood of anything happening.

holy shit yoooooo it's so rad that this has happened. Congrats on the RCL entry, and I will check the new fic out!
