Look, look at him in awe! Say hello to Iron Clad, my ponysona, who was drawn by mix-up. As always here is a link to his deviant art.
His Bio: Iron Clad was raised in canterlot where he, his brother, mother and father all lived. They were a rather rich and privileged family due to Iron's father being a high ranking guard. His mother was a stay at home mom for most of Iron's life, but would often serve as a guide to him and his brother. Iron was the younger brother of the two and he was reminded of it daily by his bigger brother which would result in them constantly fighting.
This leads us to one of the defining moments in Iron's life; the day he got his cutie mark. At a very young age, Iron had a fascination with history and magic so he would often go to the museum or search for gemstones to practice with. One day his brother decided to use Iron's fascination for a prank and led him down into the crystal caves promising gems for his spells. When they were deep within the caves Iron's brother pretended that he didn't know the way back which caused Iron to start panicking and running around in circles. When his brother started laughing at his terror, Iron realized his brother's prank and tried to hit him in retaliation. His brother dodged the hoof and threw Iron up against the wall to show him who was boss. Due to throwing him against the wall as hard as he did, the cave started to shake and rocks started to fall near the two colts. They were both trapped underground and now Iron's brother was the one panicking. He started pulling random rocks out of the pile that had blocked there way out which caused a fairly large boulder resting on the top of the pile to become dislodged.
Iron saw the boulder falling before his brother did and quickly caught it in his magic. Iron was not the strongest when it came to magic so holding up the boulder caused a massive strain on his magical capability. When his brother turned around to ask for help he saw that Iron was holding the boulder up and quickly got out of the way so that Iron could finally drop the boulder. The damage to Iron was already done however, his nose was bleeding and he could barely see or think straight. They stayed in those caves for half a day before finally someone found them down there due to ponies investigating an earthquake that cave in caused. When they returned home, Everypony noticed that Iron now had his cutie mark, it was a cracked shield.
Fast forward a few years and Iron has joined the guard like his father did so long ago. Iron wasn't exactly the best guard as he would often approach dangerous situations in a relaxed way. This led to him being thrown into multiple life and death situations which earned him a few scars. One of the most prominent of these scars is a long mark across his side which he would often cover up under his armor. He earned that scar when having to deal with a griffin outlaw that decided to take refuge in a Canterlot bar. Due to his reckless nature he would often be assigned to the boring patrols until he had the chance to go on an expedition.
He was one of the first guards to sign onto the expedition into Equis' unknown territories, and he hoped that this would help prove himself. The expedition started off smoothly until they entered a volcanic like area where dragons were said to live. Iron's group found a small cave with piles and piles of gold and jewels that many of the guards took without a second thought. A growl resounded throughout the cave when the group of ponies turned to the entrance to see not one but three dragons with angry expressions. The ponies quickly tried to flee from the cave with Iron trying to block the walls of fire with his magic. Two of the ponies trying to flee were grabbed by the dragons and swallowed whole which caused the rest of the ponies to shriek in terror.
This was Iron's next defining moment, he quickly used his magic to force the dragon's into each other so they would stop attacking his friends. The three dragons were stunned for a second before Iron started throwing various rocks at them while also wearing various pieces of the dragon's hoard. The dragons quickly locked there eyes onto him and started to chase him in a vain attempt to get their treasure back while Iron ran throughout the area. The rest of the ponies were able to escape without any problems though several wanted to go back and help Iron to safety. They were relieved to see Iron walking back to them without a scratch on him though he didn't have a scrap of the treasure he was running with on him.
That was the last day of there expedition before starting their return home. When they finally returned, Iron handed the captain his helmet and resigned from the guard. When he was asked why, he would only reply with "I screwed up". The guard allowed for him to keep his armor as a memento of his days as a guard which he wears with honor. Only the guards that were on that expedition with him knew what he meant and they respected his decision to leave though they were sad to see him go.
After resigning, Iron became an impromptu explorer and would delve into various tombs and caves in search of treasure. During one such adventure was when he got that hole in his ear. He got cocky when exploring a tomb and ended up having an arrow fly through his ear after setting off a trap. In the end the tomb wan't even worth the effort as it only contained old books about cooking hay, HAY! This still didn't bring him down as he kind of liked the new addition to his battle scars.
He still goes into town rather often and will assist the guards whenever they ask, but he is no longer a guard. As always, thank you for taking the time to read this.

what dose the broken shield represent? not being good enough to be a guard?
at first I though the hole in his ear was actually a gold stud, then i read the bio looked again and realized it was his hair
last thing is, i'm glad you call this world Equis. it's not a huge problem when one of my authors has a different head cannon then me but when they do it's really easy to get into the story
3560371 The broken shield represents sacrifice. The best way I can describe it is that a shield is designed to take a hit so the owner doesn't have to. Iron's is cracked because he's willing to take a hit that would likely kill him.
