Spoilers! The Mane Attraction · 6:27pm Nov 21st, 2015
Not a lot to say here. The big draw was of course the music, and god was it good.
The basics: AJ had a fillyfriend back in Friendship Camp that she knew as Rara, who apparently made it HUGE in pop music.
Except... her friend has gone full on diva now, as evidenced by Pinkie having to jump through many, many hoops to get her booked for a charity event.
Countess Coloratura is what she goes by now (I have to assume her parents were hippies, because Coloratura is her real name) and she is basically adopting a persona to make it big because her manager suggested it.
But she still loves charity work, and adores visiting children.
And that's basically all the conflict we get, as the manager is exposed for acting against her interests, and she kicks his ass to the curb.
She then freaks out because without him, she has no way to do the big image show she always does. And then Applejack reassures her in one of the most romantic lines I have ever seen this show produce.
"Rara, when you’re simply yourself, you’re the brightest star I ever seen shine"
Yeah, they were doing it. That tears it.
Sorry, Rarijack shippers, but it seems there is a new canonical ship
Rarajack
Also, fillyfriend is now a canonical word, and I think Applejack was confused that Rara wanted her cherries separated since she did that for her back in Friendship Camp.
Definitely cute moments with AJ and Rara.
...Curse my perverted mind.

So, the manager's name is an obvious reference, BUT....

Just saying.
:winky.gif:
Or, y'know, opera nuts, since it's a term for a type of soprano vocalist...
Coloratura
Why would her parents need to be hippies? Coloratura is a music word, and this is ponies.

I am aware the word exists and has a meaning. Hell, spell-check clued me into that. Still sounds like a name a hippie would give their first-born.

3559937 Or... y'know... a pony. Since they're named stuff like that...

You know, the second example doesn't quite work the same. Maybe it's just me.
3559957 I'm suggesting that the observation itself was pointless, because ponies are all named things like that.
3559964 Did you miss the bit about me being a bad reviewer? I simply jotted down what came to mind and shared it because it might make someone else giggle. It's my thought, I can be pointless if I wish.
I also enjoyed this episode, and I go into far more detail about these things in my review in my blog.
Keep your peaches peeled. I've got something coming out Thanksgiving that'll split your oranges...

That's terrible.
...
I laughed.
implying they 'experimented' as young fillies?
No. Please no. Let them stay friends, seriously.
3566772 Sky, it's okay, you can ship them in one story, and have them as friends in another. Shipping is fun!
3567051 Okay ya got me, that is what makes it all in good fun. I used to think too seriously of it in the past, but I have made progress to stop that now.
But if there's an exception, it's that there is nothing concrete to Fancy Pants already with Fleur. Nothing substantial to confirm it has ever happened and any time they were in the background was circumstantial and doesn't legitimately prove any romantic relationship between them.
3567113 The thing about shipping is, there doesn't have to be legitimate anything. Mr. and Mrs. Cake are a canonical couple. Doesn't stop me from shipping Cakepie. Or, for that matter, from shipping Twilight to Cadence. Fleur could be his wife, or a friend, or his bodyguard. All you need do is write the story to tell us that.
3567128 I understand perfectly, it's just what I've observed for so long and anytime somebody tells me against those observations it sparks something in me and I've got to enforce it if/when they do. I guess we never stop learning, or re-learning, how to behave as civilised individuals.
