Oh the wonders of Fimfiction. There are many magnificent reads for all. But there are some Mature-Rated stories on Fimfiction that well are not for kids are great reads for the young adults.
Today I am here to compare and contrast Fall of the Caribou and Twilight’s Harem. Both written by the wonderful author KnightyMysterio. One story is a one shot the other story is still ongoing as of this post.

So without further ado let the comparison begin.

1) Context and Plot
I’ll start off with saying I’m not a fan of some Clopfics on Fimfiction. Well I do read them now and then, to me they’re usually bland with no proper character development and lacked storyline to put in its place all the sex scenes which just becomes the main plot of the story.

Twilight’s Harem while is technically a Clopfic does not follow this calibre too much thankfully which is why I grew to love reading it.

The story is set after Season 3, ignoring Season 4 and 5 canon. The silly nobles (Prince Blueblood obviously) found a rule that they intend to use to strip Twilight from power as a Princess. Because of this, Twilight has to get 25 ponies to be part of her harem or else be stripped of her royal title. Antics truly ensured in this race against time. (Keep in mind the premise is silly because why not Celestia just change the rules here and there for that. Just role with it.)

The story is very interesting and full of comedy giving very naughty jokes here and there. Every interaction and overreactions of each and every character to sex in general is comedy gold.

The funniest part of the story is that everything seems to go Twilight’s way. What Luck!! It’s most probably because she’s a hero to the ponies for saving Equestria a couple of times.

My favourite part in this story was Rainbow Dash thoughts on sex:

Rainbow Dash frowned. “There's still that bit that says she can do what she wants with her slaves in public,” she said, blushing. “Kissing and... and...” she gulped, forcing the next words out, “and squishy bedroom stuff.”
Spike quirked an eyebrow. “'Squishy bedroom stuff?'” he deadpanned. “Really?”
Fluttershy frowned at Rainbow Dash, concerned. “It's a perfectly normal part of life, Rainbow Dash,” she said.

Furthermore, the story touches upon multiple characters giving more interesting information about each and every one yet still remaining focussed on the plot of the story which is a definite show of good writing.

Although the story hasn’t been updated in a while at this point in time, the last chapter posted definitely kept me exited for more.

In Ponyville, Discord looked up from his snack, startled. “What in blazes...” he said, looking around as he tried to find the source of the magical disturbance.
In Canterlot, Celestia and Luna almost dropped their tea, the unusual surge of power disturbing them.
“Sister?” Luna asked nervously. “What was that?”
“I don't know...” Celestia said, scanning around with her magic but unable to find the source.
In the Crystal Empire, Cadence looked up, worried. “...It's can't be. He was beaten...”
And in the darkest, coldest regions beyond the Empire, something dark started to stir...

Now let’s take a look at Fall of the Caribou. Otherwise known as KnightyMysterio’s take on the so-called Fall of Equestria in general.

To those who don’t know what is Fall of Equestria is then you’re lucky. Fall of Equestria is a setting where Equestria is taken over by the Caribou leader King Dainn. Females ponies after the invasion are subjected to Humiliation, Torture and Sexual Slavery. These set of stories in this universe are full of rape, torture, bondage and sex.

I’m not a fan of these Fall of Equestria stories to be clear. It’s just not my cup of tea. But there is always a minority who enjoy these type of rape stories. (There are people who like Fifty Shades of Grey after all.)

Anyway while I do not like Fall of Equestria stories, I love the satires and parodies of them. I love to primary read stories related to the Epic Failed Fall of The Caribou Invasion. Whether it is The Caribou vs Molestia, Tyrantlestia or whatever kind of Divine Intervention it’s completely hilarious to me.

Fall of the Caribou is under that category of satire on the Epic Fail Caribou Invasion. It’s apparently how the real Equestria would react to The Caribou. Though I was sceptical, I found it to be mostly true and also comedy gold.

From Discord’s Magic to OP Celestia and even magical stonings by the Elements of Harmony. The failure of the caribou is massive here. I like this story even more that the ponies of Equestria aren’t just waiting to be saved like damsels in distress but instead most ponies are getting involved like how Twilight’s Kingdom should have been done instead of being saved by the Mane 6 all the time. Everypony had a part to play in the story. I even had a laugh at the reference to the Season 5 Premiere.

I was even more surprised by how KnightyMysterio shreds some light on characters I didn’t like. *Prince Blueblood* *cough*

My favourite line was All THE DISCORD JOKES:

Applejack quirked an amused eyebrow. “That's a dang good question,” she said. During the initial battle, before the rainbow had been summoned, several dozen giant fire-breathing roosters had appeared, attacking the caribou and saving several mares from being violated in the process. After the battle, they had all vanished.
Fluttershy giggled.
Everyone turned to look at her. She squeaked, and blushed, saying, “Well... Um... It was sort of a joke that Discord did.” At the unspoken question of explain, Fluttershy giggled again, and said, “Well... Discord said,” here Fluttershy lapsed into a rather close imitation of Discord's accent and manner of speech, “'If they want to attack mares with their cocks, then I'll just have to attack them with my cocks.'”

The messenger nodded. “There was something in there about Discord using giant fire-breathing roosters. From what the report said, Discord claimed that he 'wanted to fight those dicks with his giant cock.'”

The story was 100% focussed on how badly The Caribou will fall. But it gets even better. Spoiler Alert but by the end of the story the Caribou are “reformed” in a sense and I absolutely enjoyed that. It actually gives a good ending to the despised Fall of Equestria that left me smiling all the way.

The storylines of both these stories are clearly different. Twilight’s Harem is like a “Around of the world in 80 days” type of story but replace “Around the world” with “Finding 25 Ponies” and “in 80 days” with “in 2 Months”. It’s funny and naughty at the same time in making sex-themed jokes. On the other hand, Fall of the Caribous is the satire of another story, poking fun at how silly the concept of Fall of Equestria really is joking about all this sex and torture. The hilarity of this satire makes this story a great one-shot to be read.

2) Characters
Twilight’s Harem has multiple characters as stated before. The Mane Six, Spike, The CMC,Derpy Muffin, Lotus, Discord, Diamond Taira, Silver Spoon, Babs Seed, Trixie, Cheerilee.... *inhales breath*. There are a lot of characters...

There is at least some proper character development to each character to a degree. Some having more than others. For instance, Derpy has been more developed in character in this story than Zecora, Lotus ect. since Derpy was the first to join Twilight’s Harem. But hopefully with each new chapter there is more character development along the line. KnightyMysterio definitely needs to keep in mind the number of characters he has in this story in order for each to get enough character development and also not to put too many new characters otherwise the story may feel cramp.

Meanwhile, Fall of the Caribou also has many characters introduced and there is some minor degree of character development. However, the story itself was more focus on satiring Fall of Equestria. The story doesn’t focus too much on many characters but instead the settings of each location and the actions happening about equestrian during the invasion. It’s just here and there. Now don’t get me wrong, the story is still interesting and there are a few characters that had great character development such as Prince Blueblood, Discord, Prince Shining Armour and Princess Cadance and finally my personal favourite King Rudolph. The majority of the other character remains neutral mostly just acting as useful exposition for us readers.

Both stories have a multitude of characters. Twilight’s Harem has more characters having character development than Fall of the caribou but Fall of the Caribou had Better Character Development for the fewer characters being developed. These two stories definitely show the difference in Quality vs Quantity.

3) Flaws (I guess?)
Now here’s the tricky part for me. There are problems and flaws in each story but over the time since I’ve read both, I’ve also found reasons to justify the flaws to a small extent.

First off, with both stories being Mature-rated and having the sex tag. This might turn away some readers at a glance.

Readers may not be interested in reading Fall of the Caribou because it’s Fall of Equestria related. It took sere boredom for me to even read anything related to satiring Fall of Equestria in the first place.

Some scenes in Twilight’s Harem may weird you out as well since the story itself is still a Clopfic. I felt weirded out by a couple of the sex scenes to the point I glance over them to read the next chapter.

But perhaps that’s just my opinion.

Also, some characters in both stories seemed out of character at one point. (No offence to KnightyMysterio of course)

Shining Armour seemed out of character in Fall of the Caribou willing to go to the extent of torture to show their empire’s dominance.

Shining Armor nodded, his expression darkening as he turned to his troops. “Hang the remaining officers and clerics. Take all the dead outside the city dome and burn them. Remove ALL the antlers of the survivors and store them in one of Sombra's old trophy rooms. Make sure that you threw out all of Sombra's old trophies, first. I'll figure out what to do with the antlers later. Lock up the rest in the old prisons in the mines, we'll hold them until we get word from the others. As for that sergeant... in addition to removing his antlers, remove his penis and testicles, his tongue, and his hands. Put him a dress and then put him in stocks in the center of town. Let him serve as an example of what happens to those who invade us with cruelty in their hearts. The ponies of the Crystal Empire will not be enslaved again.”

Twilight seemed out of character in being very “dominant” in a sexual manner during the sex scenes of Twilight's Harem.

She gulped nervously as Twilight stood up and telekinetically locked the door. “I was actually given this order a month ago. I only worked up the courage to ask the others today, so I sort of know how you feel about talking to your daughter, even if our situations are nothing alike,” she said, magically pulling Derpy's chair along with the startled pegasus still sitting in it. “In the interim, though, I've been getting some rather... 'interesting' instruction from Princess Luna on how to fulfill my end of the duties to my harem...”
Derpy, as she looked at Twilight, gulped nervously. Something in the way the alicorn was staring at her was a mix of terrifying and strangely arousing.
“S-Special instruction?” Derpy asked, grinning nervously.
Twilight smirked. “Oh, I think we can all guess what my training included,” she said, her voice almost a purr as she pulled Derpy over to the ladder that led up to her bedroom.

Yet both are understandable why they are like this way when I thought about it more.
Shining Armour might have acted this way in Fall of the Caribou since he has been defeated way too many times by a Black Bug, A Black Shadow and A Black and Red Centaur. Obviously he would make an example of someone to show he is not helpless as the Co-Leader of the Crystal Empire.

Shining Armor slapped the cleric. “In the past couple years, I have had my body warped and distorted by Discord, had my mind enslaved by Queen Chrysalis of the changelings, had my horn corrupted by King Sombra's magic and becoming crippled because of it, had ALL my magic, my very SOUL, ripped out and devoured by Tirek, and a bunch of other things I really don't want to think about. Do you really think I'd be stupid enough, after all that, not to take steps to protect my mind, my soul, my self, my family, my home, my PEOPLE from ever having anything like that happening to them again!?” he shouted. Several Crystal ponies beamed in pride at their Emperor's words, while Cadance just smiled lovingly at him.

Also, Twilight Sparkle in Twilight’s Harem has already been trained ahead of time by the Princesses of how to meet the ends of rewarding her Harem. This gap of time is probably why Twilight is a little bit different in the story yet still remaining her adorkable self.

There was a flash of light above them, and Twilight, her mane bound in a loose ponytail, hovered down from above to join them. She gave them all an apologetic look, having guessed what Derpy said from the expressions on everypony's faces. “Yeah, sorry, I meant to tell you... I got word of this a month ago, I only got up enough courage to ask you girls yesterday. In the meantime, Princess Luna has been teaching me how to... ah...” she blushed, and continued, “...to take care of my end of my duties towards my harem. It was an accelerated course, a lot of it involving being a dominant.”

I guess it’s up to interpretation of each and every reader to be the judge themselves.

So which story is better overall?

Do we honestly have to pick?

Both have their strong points and weak points. In the end of the day we have two great stories for us users to read and enjoy.
