Don't call a story something beginning with U. Apparently they don't do as well 
Ah don't get me wrong it did alright, but both of those fics of mine having likes in the 60s and 6 dislikes each amused me enough to blog about it. (Yeah I know Inclination was basically crippled before it even started, I know, I know.)
Maybe I should have pandered and put John 'why is this yank popular or indeed a meme?' Cena in it and I could have got top of the featured list again, then maybe not!
Also fuck EqDaily once more cause seriously fuck EqDaily. Grr, arrgh, usual rant about lottery and pedantic nitpickery, y'know the drill.

Well, yes. Equestria Daily's approval system is a terrible crapshoot riddled with bias pretending to be fairness.
And I can say this as an impartial observer, because I've never even written a pony fic, much less tried to get one approved by them.
Yeah, EQD is... it's a crapshoot, like what ForSpite said.
Dunno how they are now, but they used to be... inconsistent. It all depended on which reader you got and how much they liked certain things. They'd let through plenty of dancing bears and sensationalist meme stuff, and block other stuff with ill-defined explanations. Supposedly they cleaned up the act later, but who knows?
That said, getting on EQD isn't the rocket ride of awesome people seem to think it is. It's just a thing. You may get a few extra hits, but it's not going to elevate you into the ranks of the Internet Famous. I don't bother anymore.
I'd say more, but the animation of Twilight making lewd licking motions on the right is really distracting.

I will admit to a certain... annoyance that your To Romance a Magician got on there and By Royal Command didn't. I will admit it's oh so very petty and not something I'm cool with in myself but hey I will certainly fess up to not being perfect in anyway shape or form

But really, it's just stupidly arbitrary. They say they have high standards and that would be fine by itself, but then they let through crap. Or they reject you for stupid reasons. When I submitted Friendship Goes Both Ways, I got back a bullet list of things they disagreed with, but no explanation of what they meant. ("Improper colon use"?)
I too would like to know exactly what they said about the Mag'ne reference. That seems like a really stupid thing to get hung up on.

EQD is just a news site, nothing more. If they find your story and publish a link, it just means more viewers, it's not an Oscar. They're not? Then nothing is lost anyway, your story isn't branded forever with "NOT APPROVED" or anything like that (unless you yourself add fic to the "Not Approved in EQD" group). You're not upset when local newspaper isn't publishing news about you, are you?
