11:11:11AM, 11/11/11 - The Armistice was signed and WWI came to a ceasefire.
As a history student (and immortal), I have seen the horrors of war and the great sacrifices men, women, and even children have made during those dark times. This was one of the bloodiest wars in history (and there've been a lot).
My heart goes out to the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose life was taken, which triggered the tension; to the French, whose country suffered one of the heaviest of the losses; even to Germany, whose Kaiser not only had to abdicate to avoid escalating the situation, but the country had to shoulder the blame for the entire war, and needed to pay an impossible amount of money (£226,000,000,000; later reduced to 132,000,000,000... Which is still a lot!), even through their economic slump (which is an understatement), as reparations for the damage they caused! Keep in mind, they only finished paying those reparations on October 3rd, 2010. So they didn't have it easy.
R.I.P. to the veterans and victims.
And since it's FOB Week...
Seems like some people don't like this holiday. I don't get it, what's wrong with celebrating our heroes and the end of the bloodiest war the earth ever faced?
3536001 The blood and the death of the heroes. Most people see it as more of a time of remembrance and mourning thab celebration.
3536089 I mean as in earlier someone said there is nothing honorable in fighting for your country, and we shouldn't celebrate war. I don't think he understands the holiday.
3536094 Oh. Yeah, no. I think he thinks it's celebrating the war, when it's actually celebrating the end of the war. Maybe he misinterpreted.
3536115 Probably.
