Some Random Brony Online

I originally made this account just to post a comment. Now I rant about ponies and write the occasional fanfic. Emphasis on "occasional."

    Update on Stuff

First of all, I apologize to anyone that has been disappointed by the fact that I have not uploaded a second chapter to Appledash: How it Would Happen. It feels kind of pompous to type this as if I'm addressing a large audience. I know I'm not really a popular writer on this site, but I am partially writing this for myself, and also, there are probably some people who would have liked to see a

Update On AppleDash: How It Would Happen

Hello everyone! I am going to be talking about my plans for AppleDash: How It Would Happen, but first, I would just like to say thank you to all of you kind people who read my story and liked it, favorited it, commented on it, added it to a bookshelf, followed me, whatever. The Orb Is Mai Waifu

Note: If you haven't seen Ultra Fast Pony up to episode 52, this might not make sense. (but it might still be funny)

About Appledash: How It Would Happen

In this post, I'm going to be talking a bit about my thought process during writing this, and why I wrote it the way I did. I'm also going to be talking about where I'm going with the story, because some people (at least two people!:pinkiegasp: I'm so popular :pinkiehappy:) seem to be interested in that. So, if you want to just skip to that, it's one of the last paragraphs.

Should There Be Gay Characters in MLP?

In order to teach the ones that need to be taught, you must first be sure that they can hear what you're saying.

Homosexuality seems to be a pretty big topic nowadays. To answer the question I stated in the title, I do not think there should be any characters in MLP that are confirmed to be gay,

Why Is The Brony Fandom So Big? Also, My Personal Experience With The Show. · 4:00pm Nov 11th, 2015

As you can guess from the title, I'm going to be talking about the brony fandom. It's something that's both confused and amazed me for a while. I'm also going to be talking about my own personal experience with the show and the fandom. I don't really care whether or not anybody actually reads this, because I just want to get my thoughts down.

My experience with the show:
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is a great show. One of my favorites, actually. When I first started watching it, towards the end of the spring of 2015, I didn't really know what to expect. Before I decided to watch the show, I never really saw much of the brony fandom. The most I had seen was a fan drawing or two. And that picture in Dirk's room (my HomeStuck is showing). I remember I was following this one guy's series on YouTube or something, and he mentioned MLP every once in a while, and I thought Huh. He's a brony. Okay. and just continued on. I never really thought about it much one way or the other. I didn't think any less of them for it, but I also never really bothered to find out why they liked it. A few days or so before I started watching the show, I saw a video on YouTube called Top 20 Disturbing Moments in Kid Shows ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE62sttB5do ). I saw the scene with Pinkie Pie talking to inanimate objects from Party of One. In the comments of that video (or some other video, I don't remember), there was one saying good things about the show. After that, I started thinking about bronies. They happen to like a show made for little girls; who cares, that's their business. That was my general mentality about bronies after thinking about it. I wasn't entirely a stranger to fandom hate, either. While I never was really personally affected by HomeStuck hate all that much (the most I've had to deal with was one of my friends saying something along the lines of, "Ew, you're a HomeStuck?" in a teasing way instead of a demeaning way), and I had never really seen others have to deal with it much, I still knew it existed, and that fans shouldn't be judged just for liking something, or being in a certain fandom. Because of that, I never really held any ill will toward bronies, the fandom in general, or the show itself. But as I was thinking about my own opinion about bronies, I thought to myself, Why not try watching the show and seeing if I like it? I had just recently gotten really into Steven Universe and Gravity Falls (after I watched all of the Steven Universe episodes once, I went and started following at least 4 different Steven Universe reaction / blind commentary series. That show is awesome!), and I was caught up with both, and I felt like watching cartoons, so I thought, Why the hell not? So I went on YouTube and looked for the first episode of MLP, planning to watch it on YouTube like I had with Steven Universe and Gravity Falls. All I could find were reaction videos and blind commentaries. So, I watched one by a guy called Silvercross. It's a good thing I did. I never really planned on watching the entire series, but I also didn't plan on watching just the first episode. I didn't really think about it, but I guess I planned on just watching it as long as it entertained me. I think that if I hadn't watched a blind commentary of the first episode, and I had just watched it myself, I might not have kept watching the series. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great. I might have left the episode thinking, It's not bad, but it's not really for me. I probably would have watched a few more episodes and then went back to watching Steven Universe blind commentaries. I think we can all agree that the first few episodes, and in fact, the whole first season, wasn't great. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. However, the commentary kept me entertained throughout the video, and I left the video thinking, That was pretty good. Not great, but good enough to keep watching. And that's just what I did (that's also why I don't really dislike the first Equestria Girls all that much. If I watched it without commentary, I might dislike it. The commentary allowed me to enjoy watching it). I watched through all of Silvercross's season one commentaries, saw the first Ponies the Anthology, and started watching his season two commentaries. And I saw The Return Of Harmony parts one and two, and Lesson Zero. I think that was really what solidified my commitment to watching the show. To this day, they remain three of my favorite episodes. That is how I got into the show. However, watching the show itself hasn't been the best part of being a brony. I love the show itself, but for me, the best bart is all of the fan-made content; the fanfictions, the fan animations, all of that. But I don't really understand how all of that came to be.

The fandom:
While I understand why people like the show, I don't really get why the fandom grew like it did. Especially with how the show was in the first season. While I enjoyed it when i first watched through, looking back on it now, it's like Act 1 of HomeStuck compared to the rest of it. And yet, the fandom seemed to grow fairly large even before it really hit its stride, which for me was season two. I get how the fandom grew from almost nothing to being relatively small, and I get how it grew and continues to grow from large to even larger, but how did it get from being a small fandom to a large fandom? The show and the fandom have been influencing each other for a while. The show subtly (sometimes) acknowledged the fans, and made it more appealing to the older audience it suddenly had. But how did the fandom grow like it did? The way the fandom is now, with all of the fanfictions and fan animations and fan-made content, it inspires others to make their own content, which leads to more fan-made content. Some are inspired by the show itself, and some are inspired by other people's work. However, it doesn't make sense to me how it grew like it did. It still baffles me. The reason I'm so into the show is not entirely the show itself, but is in fact mostly the fan-made content. If it wasn't for all of that, and I just watched the show itself, I'd still like it, and it would probably still be in my top favorite shows, but I wouldn't be as into it. Essentially what I'm saying is that I got into the fandom mostly because of the fandom itself, not the show. What I don't get is how people got as into the show as I am before there was this much fan-content. I'm going to give an example: shipping. I really ship AppleDash and Twiset (I prefer the term Twiset to Sunlight because it feels more unique to their relationship), but it's mostly because of all of the fanfictions I've read featuring those ships. Just watching the show, I wouldn't ship them nearly as much. But how did people start shipping them that much before all of the fanfiction? Fall Weather Friends and that one scene from Rainbow Rocks may be what started most of the initial shipping, but how did it evolve from there like it did? How were people so into the show back in season one? I just don't really get it. MLP is a great show, but I think that if Steven Universe had the kind of fandom that MLP has, I would probably be even more into Steven Universe than MLP. I'm more into the brony fandom than the show itself.

Well, that happened. I never really mean to write as much as I end up writing. Oh well.

Until next time,
Some Random Brony Online

P.S. I clicked browse, and there are apparently about 76,000 fanfictions on this site, with 1,043,755,942 total words and an estimated reading time of 414 weeks and 1 day. Holy shit! This is what I'm talking about! That's just the fanfictions on this one website. With how many ideas the fandom can come up with, the show should last at least another fifteen seasons! Or at the very least, past season six.
