Fallout 4 kills NaNoWriMo · 4:37pm Nov 9th, 2015
A few of you may be aware that November is "National Novel Writing Month", in which aspiring writers practice writing quickly by writing 50,000 words in one month. I won't lie, I tried to do this, and failed miserably. The combination of exams and upcoming Fo4 has dug (and will dig) a lot of time out of writing.
I've been trying to work to get you guys something to read during the holidays, working simultaneously on 3.5 stories. These stories are, listed in order of importance to me:
Improbable Truth
This story is probably the reason you're following me, and remains to be the most important work right now. I'm currently working on Chapter 22, whereas Chapter 21: Eruption will be released when I've completed Chapter 22. So epect it out by Saturday. However, the reason it took so long was because of...
A Stranger in a Stranger Land
Originally, Improbable truth would be somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000 words, but an idea struck me. Most people agreed there were too many perspectives, and this story would consist of the perspective of an individual that would eat up a lot of the word count. This split story will reduce Improbable Truth to a maximum of 400,000 words, and that's a generous estimate.
This is you guys reading the estimated word count now.
This story will be far more artistically inclined, more emphasis on emotion and descriptions than the mother story. Chapter 1: The Billowing Gray of Ash Plumes is ready to go, and it will be published the same time as Improbable Truth's Chapter 21. One reason it took so long for me to get this out was to organize my plans by splitting the original story into two, as well as figure out which events happen at the same time chronologically. When there are notable events in both stories, I will try to upload the chapters at the same time. So I suppose you should count this as the half story mentioned above. For the more perceptive among you, you already know who this story follows. Don't worry, I'll put a link to the story at the end of Chapter 21.
A Tale of Tempest
A few of you may have seen the first chapter of this already, before I figured out what the 'unpublished view password' thing was. Oops. The rest of you should be made aware that this story is 100% done with planning. There may even be a sequel, if you guys enjoy it. Not going to lie, it's a parody of Displaced fics. Yes, there's going to be a cohesive --and hopefully interesting-- plot, complete with character development and world-building (Well, more world-building. Set in an alternate history of the world I'm building in Improbable Truth). So shots will be fired, tropes will be mocked. The main character, Mathias Durand (alias Tempest), has a completely different 'voice' than Windell, and with an equally different personality. It's going to be a difficult shift for me, but don't hesitate to give me advice.
FoE: Phoenix Initiative
This is probably a story that will never take off. I've got the barest scraps of an idea for this one. I have the utmost respect for Kkat, and for a long time, I was adamant in the belief that a fanfic based off another fanfic would never really work out. Project Horizons, for the most part, proved me wrong. And with Fallout 4 knocking at our doors, you can expect an avalanche of FoE fics crushing fimfiction. I may have to be a part of that avalanche. I know, I know, I'm sorry, but there's a likelihood of the urge to write this to grow as I play Fo4. I guess I just wanted to warn those that may come to my profile to find in inactive for over a year. In which case, users of the future, hello, from the time before the end of any acceptable content from this account. Some of you may be asking: What makes you think you can make a FoE fic that anyone would want to read? Well, I don't. Sorry. But someday, I'd like to try, hopefully before the inevitable resurgence of FoE stories on the site. All I can tell you is that there will be no humans (It would be my first non-human fic. Putting in a human would be a very bad idea, break the narrative, defeat the point, be utterly pointless, etc.), there would be a kirin protagonist. There will be the raising of a point that I doubt anybody else has brought up. Think Sacajawea. There will be Synths, factions --one of which I call the Hunters-- feral changelings, ghouls born from both zebra and pony megaspells, deathclaws and their origins, interesting baddies, and lots of cool other things.
Sorry for this huge splurge, I just had to get this out. Thanks for paying attention, and I wish you good luck.
Cheers,
Charon
I've never had time to enter in NaNoWritMo, but I know people who've been doing it for years and have yet to reach their goal. So don't feel so bad about that
Well...that's quite a lot you got going there ! I wish you the best of luck with that, but it's good to see you planning ahead. Something I wish I could do more often.
Yeah, exams are rearing their ugly head for me as well. I wish you luck with that and I'm sure you'll do great! We all love you and your work, so don't rush yourself.
See ya around!
Your Fluffy and hyperactive friend,
Northern Desert33(Formerly known as Northern Chaos33)
3531537 Good luck to you as well, Northern Desert.
My code instincts are telling me you live in either Arizona, East California, or New Mexico. Hmmm.
Dont forget, if, and if, fallout 4 is done, and you still have what the nots, theres the last of the sc2 trilogy to go through too that hits tomorrow.
*When people sweat over a 400000 word count*
"Hah! That's a short research paper, let me show you my documentation on the chemistry of the brain in relevance to the mental factor of depression, along with my listings of the social and psychological impacts of the misconceptions of depression by the public. That's a long read, and it's boring as hell!"
*Note: this is a joke, do not take it seriously, and please don't lynch me...
