Quick Note: Chapter 3 of Star vs. is coming probably in December along with Steven Universe chapter 1. Lots of homework because of what I like to term Finals Month. So have a thing to tide you over for a bit- and I will be doing this for more characters don't worry. I mean this story is pretty much tied for top tier best writing in the reception for the story.
This is something that I generally do for a lot of my stories- A. Either name chapters or stories via song lyrics or titles
Or B. Use songs to influence how I see the characters- and make the song integration more on the secretive side.
So Bastille's Pompeii is how I see my version of Star- because I personally am of the camp of people that see the act of writing as the author influencing a character in a way. Sure plots can weave out of nowhere and hijack it sometimes- but you do need a general idea of how you want a character to react to a situation.
Hence why I'm running Star as a more nuanced, in my opinion, character than usual. Note that I don't read fanfic of the fandoms I cross over just in case I would hijack an idea from someone. And anyway world building is a fun hobby of mine. Also take this as completely alternate character interpretation since in canon she's not actually a mopey mess for a lot- like two eleven minute episodes. I just had fun with a complex Star instead of the usually happy and accident prone one and tried to explain her issues logically.
So Star wants to be an optimist- but she's hiding issues about wanting to fight against expectation of what a Princess is and yet needing to conform somewhat to a loosely defined set of rules or else. She feels abandoned in a way because she has her happy memories as a child but realizes that her caretakers for much of her childhood were Mewnian soldiers- and not her parents because they were busy ruling a country. And she's worried that she's not going to live up to her mother's harsh expectations of being a Princess.
Ah, yes, the second I read some other svtfoe fanfiction, I immediately was filled with inspiration for things I could do, but I haven't followed through with any of them since I stopped caring. Nice to know you're still working on them, and good luck with finals!
