The King of Carrot Flowers · 12:08am Aug 12th, 2012
This amazing story snuck by a couple of weeks ago with only 263 views. I don't believe there's such a thing as a "best" story. Some stories shouldn't be compared to each other; I'm not going to lose sleep wondering whether Eternal is "better" than Fallout: Equestria. But on a per-word basis, there's nothing better than The King of Carrot Flowers on fimfiction.
The viewpoint character is a ponified Slenderman - a monster, not malicious, but isolated, and resigned. He has a distinctive voice, which is pathetic not by whining, but by accepting things. This is how to write pathos, subtly and indirectly. Such a touching and true-to-canon use of Fluttershy, and even new insights into her character. Most writers here would have stretched this out to 6,000 words or more. This story is not sparse or stingy with words, yet it's very compact, at 1890 words. Every word contributes directly to the theme.
Thanks to Nyronus for pointing this one out on bookplayer's blog.
Fimfiction needs a "sweet" tag. Stories with the "sad" tag so often get ignored because there's no way to distinguish stories that make you sad, from sad stories that make you smile.
I don't think I have ever read anything quite like that.
Thanks
You are right. Not [sad]. Perhaps not even [sweet] is the right word. I'd say it's [touching].
Thank you for pointing the story out for us. Given my possibly unfair attitude towards crossovers I would have never picked it up on my own, and I would have been poorer for it.
I am enormously pleased to have read that story. You have my gratitude for bringing it to my attention.
As the others have said, thanks for showing us this story.
Wow, I already had this in my Read Later list dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Fluttershy_lolface.png
