It's been a long December and there's reason to believe...

Maybe this year will be better than the last.

I'd say more, but let's not tempt fate, she seems to be having a rough year too.

    Have you voted yet?

This isn't an endorsement, I have no facts and figures to offer you, no scandals to mention. I'll just say that this election may well be the most noteworthy in quite some time for the turnout, and early voting is still happening tomorrow. If you mailed yours in, check to make sure it was received. If it wasn't, there is still time to vote in person and cancel the mail in. No matter how you do

Random Thoughts On Hearthbreakers (Spoilers, Duh.) · 5:31pm Oct 25th, 2015

That moment when you realize: "Oh, they really are Amish."

Limestone is a bit of a sourpuss. Oh, hey.

Oh wow, only five seasons in and Pinkie Pie has learned to tell when her blunt observations aren't helpful. Imagine if she could teach Dash that level of self-awareness?

Applejack can't even go to another family's home without trying to force her traditions down their throat. The unicorns really need to take her down a peg instead of just fixing bird's nests with their hooves. You should get on that, Rarity.

The Pies now have a new tradition. Every year, Applejack will come over and fuck everything up.

Marble Pie may well be the cutest damned thing ever. Sorry, Coco, you had a good run.

Apple Bloom still has her cutiemark, and the last season we saw was what looked like late summer. So we're jumping straight to winter, which is 5-7 months, then all the way to fall the next year. We have as much as a 17 month gap in real time from Crusaders Of The Lost Mark to Scare Master, assuming we're somehow keeping up with continuity. It's that, or seasons happen whenever the fuck these magical horses feel like having them.

Pinkie's family all seem capable of consuming rocks. I wrote a scene once in which they served the blandest food I could think of. I had no idea.

The Pie sisters may well be Quadruplets, but at the very least we now know Pinkie has a twin sister. Together, they seem to run the gamut of emotions necessary to become the Inside Out characters.

Amish ponies let rocks choose their mates for them.

Granny Smith is apparently still hot to trot for some lucky stallion out there. Be afraid.

An interesting episode, to say the least.

"...Imagine if she could teach Dash that level of self-awareness?"

Yeah, that's going to take a pretty big rock delivered straght to Dash's noggin. I've always been amazed at how the writers and animators can take two such self-absorbed characters as Rainbow Dash and Rarity, and still make them so attractive and interesting. Perhaps because they both put the well-being of others so far ahead of their own.

It's that, or seasons happen whenever the fuck these magical horses feel like having them.

My guess is this. We've even kind of had a hint that it's canon based on Tanks for the Memories. Cloudsdale did show up to provide winter to Ponyville, after all.

3495951 Rainbow Dash. Putting the well-being of others before her own. Okay, I'll allow it insofar as Dash is capable of perceiving when her behavior is harmful, which is very very rare. But when she does notice, she does seem to feel a little bad about it.

Dunno about quadruplets, but:

"Common question, first asked to me by @Samusforce. Pie siblings, oldest to youngest: Limestone, Maud, Pinkie, Marble "

3495987 I'm leaning towards Quads, because it's hard to imagine Igneous and Cloudia having sex more than once.

This season has had two winter episodes before and after the CMC got their marks. More then one year has passed in this season due to Tank going into hibernation at the beginning of the first winter and AB having her mark in the middle of the next. I support your theory on ponies having seasons whenever they want.:twilightoops:

It hasn't been 5-7 months. The problem is, more or less, they either:

1) Don't depict snow on the ground.

Or

2) Don't always put episodes in strict chronological order, especially seasonal ones

Or

3) Don't pay any attention to seasonal episodes.

Or

4) Ponies throw together seasons at random (contradicted by the Winter Wrap-Up song).

Or

5) Hearth's Warming Eve isn't actually during the winter, and pegasi just make it snow for a week to be "seasonal", and then it goes back to being whatever season it is normally. Which, you know, they could totally do.

We actually know #2 or #3 from season 1, which had Winter Wrap-Up and Fall Weather Friends out of order; Season 2's Secret of My Excess indicates that Twilight had been in Ponyville for less than a year, while there was a winter AND a fall in season 1. They've outright said that they don't always pay attention to the order of episodes.

Seasons 1-3 were all one year - the Summer Sun Celebration at the start of S4 was Luna's first one since she returned, and we've had recurrences of the events from the first three seasons (Applebucking season, the Grand Galloping Gala, the Running of the Leaves, Hearth's Warming Eve, ect.).

3496186 Yes, season one was out of order, but from season 4 onward we seemed to have some form of continuity, at least in characters' memories. You might expect that would translate to seasons occurring in chronological order too. I can only presume that time is broken in Equestria, which might explain things like 500 year old Granny Smith, and Berry Punch looking the same age as the mane six despite looking no different when Pinkie was a foal having a party in Ponyville.

To be fair, Tanks for the Memories doesn't actually have the CMC show up at any point in it, and IIRC there haven't been any IC references to it in other episodes, so it is possible that it took place immediately prior to this episode.

But, yeah, they make all kinds of animation errors in the show, and various continuity ones, and the episodes don't always necessarily display in chronological order...

Also confusing timekeeping - how long is a "Moon"? Given that in Equestria, the Moon seems to always be full (and always rises when the sun goes down, and goes down when the sun comes up), this doesn't even make sense as a unit of measurement, unless it is a funny way of saying "day".

Though all that being said, pony ages are pretty... ambiguous when you're talking about adulthood. And in all fairness, this is hardly unique to ponies; 20-somethings and 30-somethings don't look all that different in many cases, and even 40-somethings can be confused for them depending on how they age.

3495949 Indeed. Though I wonder how the episode might have turned out if it was The Cakes instead of the Apples? I can't be the only one who's curious as to how Pinkie's first two families would intereact if given the chance.

3496950 If that happens, we need to let someone else write Pinkie's family so they aren't as one note. I'd say the best candidate would be M. A. Larson. He not only wrote the episode that established their existence, but also the episode that confirmed they are indeed alive and well.

3496956 I think they'd kick the cakes out, just an opinion, though.

I very much enjoyed this episode. I go in much more detail in my own review on my blog.

This is a great one, only thing is I can't get past the potential of both families being distantly related and so the whole MarbleMac thing that has started is not something I'm going to accustom to any time soon. :rainbowhuh: It is my thought on the matter, I can easily let everyone else fawn over it. :scootangel:

And f--k Pommel, I would assassinate her on the spot if it was tempting. :twilightangry2:

Marble Pie may well be the cutest damned thing ever. Sorry, Coco, you had a good run.

Eh, I think I actually like Coco more - she at least has the fashion job and history with Suri to give her some personality. Marble is just moe for the sake of moe.

I continue to hold to the theory that aside from big moments like the tree castle and Twilight's ascension, the order of the episodes do not follow the chronological order of events. Thus, it's been two years at max since the Season 1 premiere.

This is a great one, only thing is I can't get past the potential of both families being distantly related and so the whole MarbleMac thing that has started is not something I'm going to accustom to any time soon.

I concur.

3504337 Fair enough, but sometimes we have huge jumps in weather and the characters talking as if the last episode... happened last week.

3504361 True. Continuity in the show is... strange.

3504337 I suppose I like Flutterpie because of what her existence says about Pinkie's interaction with Fluttershy. Season one, she sees Shy as too fragile to be pranked. If we take Marble into account we can infer she sees this very quiet and shy pegasus as being much like her sister. She even tries to encourage Shy to jump over the ravine, and later acts towards her as a big sister would, calling herself Auntie Pinkie Pie.

Later on, in season two, Pinkie has her heart broken when the newly enboldened New Fluttershy lashes out at her. She forgives her, but she takes note, Shy is growing in a way Marble has never done. You can see this reflected throughout the later episodes, Shy is not considered fragile.

In season four, Pinkie derps. She's still trying to be helpful to aid Shy in her growth, but she makes the mistake of speaking for Shy about what she fears. However, in typical Pinkie Pie fashion, she goes whole hog and gets right in Shy's face while she does so.

But the real breakthrough is in this episode, when Pinkie finally acknowledges that doesn't help, and apologizes to Applejack for it.

Basically I think Pinkie is the Shy's biggest proponent, but it hasn't been easy.

At first I thought you were talking about shipping Pinkie and Fluttershy, and I was going to say you may have replied to the wrong person. :twilightblush:

Then I read the rest. Very interesting! While I still like Coco more, I do admit this has helped me appreciate Marble. Huh.

Marble Pie may well be the cutest damned thing ever. Sorry, Coco, you had a good run.

Y'know, there are multiple ponies you could have saved this sentence for and might have had an argument. Zippoorwhill. Moondancer. Hell, Maud herself in a way.

But Marble? Really?

Steel stop being literally crazy :rainbowlaugh:

3567942 She is basically Shy 0.5. I have to love her on general principle alone!

Also, I love her for a more practical reason. Marble's existence explains so MUCH about how Pinkie has treated Shy over the 5 seasons.
