I CALLED THAT.
I'm not spoiler-tagging because everyone and their grandmother ALSO called it. If anyone's aware of toyline stuff, you probably saw this coming the moment the synopsis mentioned Cadance and secrets. She's pregnant. You're not surprised. Princess Skyla (EDIT: season-6 material names her Flurry Heart) will be canon eventually.
But enough about the "twist." You wanna know what I think about the episode. Presumably.
Holy SHIT Pinkie loses her cool a lot. Just in the first THREE MINUTES. It gives us yet another heaping helping of "Pinkie Faces," which I may never tire of, so yay for that. And I'm glad she's keeping consistent character with her rigid devotion to her promises and her holding secrets as sacred things that NEED to be kept, dating all the way back to "Green Isn't Your Color."
And the CMC have their marks in their scenes. MORE continuity. And they're so CASUAL here, so I guess the thrill of their achievement has worn off a little between the last episode and this one. (And yes, that was last week, so I'm not spoiler-tagging THAT anymore.)
Also, Featherweight finally spoke for what I believe is the first time since his debut in "Ponyville Confidential." Nice.
I like Shining and Cadance a fair bit, so I'm happy to see them again. And holy shit he is SUCH a dork.
As for the meat of the episode... It FELT poorly paced at the start. I thought the "hold it in" thing was gonna last the entire time and get repetitive. Which is weird, because I normally think the episodes with pacing issues are too rushed rather than too drawn-out.
It changed up enough for me to stop worrying once Shining and Cadance showed up and the scavenger hunt went underway. And it was a nice touch that all the places Pinkie visited to fulfill her promises were the clue areas for the hunt. Tied it all together nicely.
This one was solid. Not great, not particularly special, but solid. And it offers yet another change to the status quo, albeit one that doesn't seem to have as much impact as the Crusaders getting their cutie marks. And it's a Pinkie-centered episode, so I'm carrying some positive bias either way.
Speaking of Pinkie episodes, next week is "Hearthbreakers," the Christmas episode airing immediately before the Halloween episode. We're gonna actually see the family and the rock farm, something we've been dying to revisit since season 1. I am excite.
they went to the rock farm in season 3 or 4 don't remember, but yes it would be nice to see pinkie's family again.
3480037 That was a flashback projection from Trixie in "Magic Duel," so it's hard to really count that. And I don't think we saw the farm in Maud's episode.
