The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows Review · 4:03pm Oct 17th, 2015
I am sold on Pinkie; even at her worst, I love her. Pinkie is not my pick for best pony, but she's my pick for favorite. She's just so cheerful and funny and loves nothing more than making others happy; in this, she is absolutely friendly and altruistic. How can you hate someone that has dedicated their life to bringing joy to others? You can't. Pinkie is love, Pinkie is life. Embrace the Pink! Anyway, episode.
So, first off - yeah, we called it. All the rumors were true. Princess Mi Amore is pregnant. The twist is - the father is KING SOMBRA! DUN DUN DUN!... okay not really, but that'd be a fun fanfic, eh? They're coming for a visit to tell Twi the news, so Pinkie has to keep the secret. How'd she find out? They ordered a special cake for the foal shower. Of course, as you do, Pinkie is bursting to tell someone the good news but can't tell. I can relate; a friend of mine last week hadn't seen the new episode yet and I was giddy waiting for them to find out about the CMC. Of course, she has to spend her day around the town running errands and a lot of convenient dialogue and events keep reminding her of the secret and makes it harder for her to keep her mouth shut.
Overall, a lot of fun, Pinkie's comedy is in top form and we get a lot of good jokes and silly zaniness. I think Pinkie's physical humor was a bit too over the top sometimes, but it's Pinkie so she makes it work. The last third was padding; Cadance and Shining arrive, and make a rather rushed game out of the news instead of just announcing it. But that was helped by Shining stealing the show with about 10 seconds of screentime where he makes you laugh your ass off.
The episode overall stumbled a bit, but was fine. Apparently this is the show debut of G.M. Barrow, who did several of the chapter books. For a first outing this is fine, it's not a perfect episode, but it keeps you entertained and didn't have anything glaringly bad.
I was honestly not expecting anywhere NEAR this level of quality from an episode written by G.M. Berrow.
I was pleasantly surprised...no, ASTONISHED...at this entire episode and how amazing it was.
This episode probably contains my favorite visual gags in the entire series.
I accidentally spoiled last weeks episode to my friend via Skype call last night.
Then I watched this.
My guilt levels were high.
