Miss Koi and CartoonNerd review "Equestria Girls 3: Friendship Games" · 5:08am Oct 17th, 2015

Hello every pony! Or should I say...every one;) Guess what I'm reviewing?:D That's right folks, I'm reviewing Equestria Girls 3 or The Friendship Games!

*Now, Missy is no longer a koi fish pony but a human. A pearly white skin human with black and red spots like in her koi fish pony form. She still has her long wavy hair with black, red, and white highlights. But she has a golden koi fish shaped hair clip in her wavy hair. She's wearing a red t-shirt with a golden balancing scale on it. She is also wearing a black skirt and golden ballet flats. *

But, I'm not reviewing this episode alone.

*Something falls from the ceiling and drops next to Missy*

CartoonNerd gets up and groans: Where am I? How did I get here? One minute I sitting at my computer typing up my latest fanfiction when suddenly this magical rift came out of nowhere! (Looks at Miss Koi strangely) Hey... aren't you Miss Koi Fish Pony? I think I've seen you in collab reviews with my sister, KidatHeart5.

Missy: Yes indeedy, I am! Er at least, the Miss part. As you can see, I'm not my usual koi fish pony self. So, just call me Missy. Every body does...or at least..I want them to. People are always so scared to call me Missy. Anyway! Want to review The Friendship Games while you're stuck here on my channel?

CartoonNerd: (Shrugs) Might as well, since I don't know how I'll get back. So wanna talk about how in the beginning of the movie that Rainbow Dash had to call everybody in just for a guitar string?! :rainbowderp:

Missy: Oh man, I swear, the movie should have started with Sunset writing in the book to Princess Twilight. And then, the rest of the gang can join in and say hi and go from there. What did you think of that intro scene with the purple magic and credit sequence? I thought it was really cool like the Rainbow Rocks intro only a little more different.

CartoonNerd: It was so intense! But the opening credits seem kind-of misleading once we got into the movie more, there wasn't much a rivalry between our Canterlot High girls vs. the Crystal Prep girls so that was kind-of disappointing.

Missy: Hmm, never thought about it that way. But now that I think about it, the intro is misleading. The Anti-Mane Six weren't really developed characters and they don't really portray the sense of being the Mane Six's opposites/rivals. Although, the only one that I enjoyed was that green haired rocker chick named Lemon Zest I believe. She was like the rocker version of Pinkie, love it!:yay:

CartoonNerd: Hehe, yeah she was. Speaking of characters, what did you think of Twilight in this world, along with Cadence, Shining Armor, and Principal Cinch?

Missy: In terms of the Twilight in this world, she was one of the most enjoyable things about this movie. I wasn't expecting her to be the shy and insecure she was, facing the harsh criticisms and pressure of Crystal Prep. Based on that ending scene from the second movie, I was expecting her to be more of the eccentric kinda mad but cute scientist searching for Equestria and Magic. Despite my expectation, Twilight was a great character to cheer for in this story and how her character developed throughout the film. I especially love her bond with puppy Spike:rainbowkiss: So cute! In terms of my beloved Cadence...oh sweetie what have they done to you?!:pinkiegasp::fluttershbad:She looks so weird in the lipstick and the way that her face is structured like Celestia's and Luna's...just weird overall except for...those cute gold shoes of hers:) I appreciate the movie still portraying her as the awesome mentor/girlfriend in her relationship with Twilight and being a relatable and kind person overall, her human look doesn't match her pony look and just overall unflattering. I know this sounds shallow, but...I can't help but say it:raritydespair: Question: Is she older than Shining Armor? It looks like they're not a couple in this movie. In certain scenes, it looked like Shining was crushin on an older woman....eww:applejackconfused: By the way, Shining looks weird in this film too. In terms of our villain, Principal Cinch, she reminded me of The Stepmother from Disney's Cinderella and Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians. She was truly a villain that anyone can love to despise, but not a villain to root for like Discord:raritywink: Haha lol:derpytongue2:! Not an amazing villain, but a decent villain to build the conflict. How about you? What do you think of Twilight in this world, Cadence, Shining Armor, and Principal Cinch?

CartoonNerd: Twilight was not what I expected either! In fact she remained me of a lot like me and my sister during our high school years, she was totally someone we were able to relate to. And yes, I agree that her bond with Spike was so adorable! :rainbowkiss: Even if it freaked her out when he started talking, LOL. :rainbowlaugh: Cadence, I loved her in this world, but yeah... the new look didn't do her justice, but thankfully her sweet personality was intacted even when the schools were competing against each other, and I really loved that hug that she and Luna shared, kind-of makes you wonder what their relationship is like back in Equestria, how close are they after Luna came back? Makes you wonder... As for Shining Armor... Yeah, too weird... :twilightoops: You said it best, because it felt like they didn't even know each other so my guess is, they aren't married in this universe. And you're right about Principal Cinch and more, I'm going to say this outright, I HATE HER! :twilightangry2: throughout the entire movie she made my teeth clench and my eye twitch! She was all like, "WIN, WIN, WIN!" Not to mention all the horrible things she did to poor Twilight... Especially since she's the one who made Twilight into that monster to begin with! :flutterrage: Thank goodness Sunset Shimmer was able to rescue her even if the whole thing felt Pokemonest... :derpyderp2: And I'm especially glad Celestia, Luna, and Cadence called out Cinch's bluff! That was so awesome! :pinkiehappy:

Missy: Speaking of the big Twilight Monster finale, let's talk about my favorite part of the film:pinkiehappy: I love all these scenes and how they build and flow to each other: Unleash the Magic song to Twilight's transformation, to Nightmare Twilight (oh oops sorry Midnight Twilight:trollestia:), to Twilight destroying everything, to Sunset Shimmer confirming that she's the Alicorn princess of the human world:raritystarry:, to Sunset battling with Twilight, to Spike calling out to Twilight, to when Sunset helped Twilight transform back to herself in the white space:heart: All of it is just so amazing!:raritystarry: What do you mean by Pokemonest in terms of the Sunset and Twilight battle and aftermath in the white space? What was your favorite part of the movie?

CartoonNerd: It just felt like it was a Japanese anime throughout the whole sequence. :applejackunsure: As for my favorite part, I have a couple. The first was when Twilight bumped into Flash Sentry just like Equestira Twilight did, so awesome! :pinkiehappy: (Yes, I am a Flashlight shipper and I don't care about the hate) and the other favorite was when it was toward the end of Twilight transferring to Canterlot High! :yay: as well as when Pony Twilight met her human counterpart! Wow! I loved songs too but my favorite was Twilight's solo.

Missy: Speaking of Flashlight (the ship and not the actual object:raritywink: Lol:derpytongue2:), I don't ship it in terms of pony Twilight with human or pony Flash. Let's just say that I have somepony else:raritywink: HOWEVER, I do ship human world Twilight with human world Flash:rainbowkiss: Oh my gosh, I thought that I never see the day when this happened!:twilightsheepish: But I think that the reason why I like this particular ship is because this Twilight and Flash are so different from each other. She's shy, nerdy, awkward, and focused on her ambitions rather regular teenage cliche things. While Flash, he's the typical nice guy and a social butterfly with an awkward side, a rocker, with a bit of a snarky and sassy side as displayed in this movie and in Rainbow Rocks. Gee, Missy likes opposites attract, who would have guessed?:ajbemused: Plus, I like the fact that this Twilight is not really interested in him at first glance unlike our pony Twilight. This means that Flash has to work for and I love it because he needs to work for it:rainbowdetermined2: Love needs work and ladies need to be wooed man:raritywink::heart: Oh FYI, Derpy is best human because she's best comforting stranger:derpytongue2: Alright, we've talked good...let's talk about the bad:pinkiecrazy: What did you not like about the Friendship Games? Or what's your least favorite part?

CartoonNerd: I just like to say quick before we get to the bad, that those were some great observations you had comparing Human Twi to Flash! :duck: I'm pretty sure the reason she doesn't fall for him right away is because one, she's new to relationships all together and two, I'm sure Hasbro was trying to play the sympathy card with Flash to soften the haters a little. The best part is now that Twilight is transferred to Canterlot High, chances are Flash might need her as a study buddy for science or math class! (That's my headcannon and I'm sticking with it!) It could happen! Okay, now that I put away my shipping goggles, :rainbowdetermined2: let's talk about the least favorite parts of the movie. Truth be told, I don't have that many other than the rivalry wasn't very expanded or that everyone at Crystal Prep ignores or is mean to Twilight. And of course, Principal Cinch... :trixieshiftleft: The movie overall wasn't as epic as the last movie was and it felt kind-of rushed. The highlights were definitely Twilight's human counterpart being the focus of the plot, Cadence and Shining Armor appearing, and Sunset Shimmer playing a major part as the "alicorn princess" of the gang. That's pretty much what I have to say about the Friendship Games. What about you?

Missy: Haha lol, glad that you liked my little Human Twi and Flash comparison:derpytongue2: I certainly liked your little headcanon about them hooking up during study group time and your reasons why human Twilight was not interested in Flash:raritywink: Alright, onto the stuff that I don't like about the film: Besides the epic climax from Unleash the Magic to the end of the Sunset Shimmer and Midnight Twilight battle, the movie didn't feel as epic and as fun as Rainbow Rocks. That I agree with you. Because of this, I had mixed feelings about the film:/ However, despite this, it's better than the first Equestria Girls film and it's my second favorite in this little trilogy:pinkiehappy: Along with the under usage of the Anti Mane Six and the weird designs of Cadence and Shining, the potential with opening portals into Equestria was under used. I was really hoping for our human world mane six to turn into ponies and meet their counter parts. Or at least, have cooler monsters come to the human world for battle instead of Everfree plants. Or at least have ponies come into the world meet their counter parts or have something more creative. The whole events for the games like motor cross and roller derby is just...too much and a "really?" moment:ajbemused: Well, good thing the Mane Six at least pointed out this flaw:yay: Lol! At least they had archery, that's more plausible and in budget. But who knows? *shrugs* maybe that whole motor cross and roller derby was in the Crystal Prep budget? Crystal Prep is rolling in moneya!:trollestia: Oh! What's your favorite reference in the movie?:scootangel:

CartoonNerd: I don't think have one since I didn't catch any references from anything I know of. But yes, I do think the motor cross was definitely Crystal Prep's contribution to the Games since they want to show off that they're the best school ever! (rolls eyes). The first part of the Games was good but the second part was just overkill. I agree with everything else you said, there could have been more to the movie like the last one, I think it was because of the sirens for being intriguing villains plus they had great voices. :twilightblush:

Missy: The reason why the first half of the games were good was because...of dat Brave reference!:rainbowkiss: Oh my gosh, dat Disney's Brave reference with the archery was just...too perfect!:rainbowkiss:
Here's my reaction to it:

Sooo yeah, that was my favorite reference:ajsmug:
Do you have any hopes for Equestria Girls 4? They just announced that they're making one. Are you excited for this fourth installment?

CartoonNerd: Well, I'm not sure what to expect for the fourth (As shocking as it was when I found out :pinkiegasp:) but I hope that maybe because Pony Twilight saw Human Twilight, maybe the other girls are going to meet their counterparts and maybe Flash too. :rainbowhuh: Your thoughts?

Missy: I know what you mean, I didn't think that they would make a fourth one either:twilightoops: I thought the Friendship Games was the last one, it makes me wonder if the fourth installment will truly be the last.:moustache: But also, how the fourth one will end?:rainbowhuh: I'm not sure on how to feel about the fourth and don't know whether to be excited for it or not:applejackunsure: Anyway, I hope we get some human and pony counter part interaction in the next movie:) Perhaps, even some human Mane Six turning into ponies and traveling into Equestria:pinkiehappy: Perhaps, our beloved Discord can be part of this chaos:raritywink:

CartoonNerd: Haha! :rainbowlaugh: One can hope.

Missy: What's your overall score/assessment of the film? I give this bad boy 8 hearts out of 10:heart:

CartoonNerd: About 7 to 8 out of 10   So, um, do you know how I can get back? :twilightoops:

Missy: Well, since we're in the Equestria Girls universe, the only way to travel anywhere is...through the Canterlot High statue! *pointing to the Canterlot High statue*

CartoonNerd: (Takes deep breath) Okay, here it goes... (Runs toward statue and looks back to wave to Missy) Bye! Thanks for the review! (Goes in statue and disappears)

Missy: Bye sweetie! Nice reviewing ya! Ah, nice girl. Hmmm, (looking down at her hands) I should probably get back to my koi fish pony self too. I'll just wait until the next review:raritywink: Hooray for laziness!:D
