    [no title]

Man, there's been a lot of famous people I love dying lately, but I'm just gonna pop onto Wikipedia real quick to reassure myself that one of my favorite authors, Umberto Eco, is still kicking it strong, at the ripe old age of--

:raritycry: I'm gonna need a minute here. :pinkiesad:

Agency and Structure, or: Diamond Tiara's Redemption

As an addendum to my post about "Crusaders of the Lost Mark", I think it's fair to say there's been some mixed responses to Diamond Tiara's moment of redemption. One of Bad Horse's blogpost directed me to a writeup by bookplayer, Agency and Character Development, and I think it's fair

Read an Unpublished Ponichaeism Story! Presenting "The Estate of the World" · 2:11pm Oct 16th, 2015

In the life of a writer there are moments, as any of my fellow authors will well know, where inspiration seizes hold of you. Grips you tightly and reins you under control. Takes you by the hand and makes you do a high handstand. Consumes your very soul, and leaves you feeling like you hold the artery of creation beating and pulsating in your very hands, lets you feel the primordial flow of lifesblood, and you have the power of a god to coax it out or strangle it and make it to die, and the tempest of the cosmos rages through you as the storyscape unfolds inside your head like lotus petals opening in a state of Buddhist enlightenment....

Ahem.

Anyway. Yesterday, I had one such moment. Something (I'm not saying what, because spoilers) sparked such a vivid thought in my head that a story immediately unfolded itself. I found myself simply having to tell it. I don't even particularly care for Tyrant-Lestia stories, but this idea was just so potent that it didn't matter. I was powerless against the primal dream-stuff that drives and controls all writers.

So, in a haze of creative passion, I churned out "The Estate of the World" in about a half-hour. In case you couldn't tell from the fact that it has a MacBeth quote for a fucking title, It's very dark and depressing, full of sic transit gloria mundi and momento mori. It's also very short; just barely over publishing length at 1,250 words.

But alas, it got rejected. To be honest, I kind of expected that. I had to take certain precautions and make certain omissions, as one wrong hint can spoil the narrative. I don't begrudge the mods for following the rules.

However, I like the way the story is structured now. So I figured, rather than change it and resubmit it right away, I'd let my followers read it the way I intended, gather some feedback, and then decide how I want to change it, or maybe even just leave it as a word-of-mouth thing if it unexpectedly explodes in popularity (Ha!).

So, presenting, without further ado....

Tell me what you think, either here or in the comments, but please: Remember your spoiler tags!

Just to clarify: When you discuss "spoilers", do you mean that you can't talk about your own story without spoiling it, or that the story contains spoilers for other pony things we may or may not have seen?

Also, I'm curious, what was it rejected for? The mods seem to be getting a lot more aggressive these days.

I started with the ending and wrote the story to build up to it. I don't want to spoil the ending. It's very much a twist story. I know some people won't get it, but I would gladly keep it how it is for the people that will. It's also what flagged the mods. They said the epilogue was a "nonstory chapter".

And no, it contains no pony spoilers.
