Little bit of world building. Fully evolved, fully empowered Twilight Sparkle the Alicorn fully realized (meaning sparkly mane and everything and full size like Celly and having full access to her divine knowledge and wisdom), from the Prime Pony POV Verse timeline, is the only entity in the Pony POV Verse who CAN bring back the dead, the only one who can overrule Mortis.
But even she has restrictions. And I imagine using this power recklessly WOULD earn Mortis' ire.
Mortis and Strife's wedding gift was Mortis himself combined with the power of his wife. And was a one time affair.
And for True Amicitia, the soul being both WILLING -and- ABLE to return is one of the basic restrictions.
By extension of this, She also can't bring back the soul of one who is sentenced to Pony Hell.
Let alone bring back one whose soul had been separated into a light and shadow and then that light going into a new pony, resurrecting such a pony would be impossible. The soul has to be whole.
And due to the rule of 'one life per world line/universe/entire lifespan of a species/civilization, she CAN'T resurrect someone whose is the one life of a divine entity, so she couldn't resurrect say Bright Glow, Maud Pie, Celestia, etc.
Due to the rule of undeath, she may or may not be able to revive ghosts or the like, since her power is to bring back the DEAD, not those trapped in the oblivion between life and death.
Again, this is Twilight Sparkle of the PRIME Pony POV Verse at her absolute potential, she's got a couple thousand years ahead of her to reach this point.
Huh. I wouldn't have guessed resurrecting the dead is so hard since it seems to happen all the time.
Huh, so, she could hypothetically bring say, Granny Smith back from the dead if she was willing to allow Amiticia by that logic?
