Playboy Is Doing What!? · 6:12am Oct 14th, 2015
Hi.
So as of yesterday, Playboy magazine made quite possibly one of the most controversial announcements of all time: They are going to stop showing nudes.
Due to the Internet’s popularity, they say, people can now find naked pictures and full-on sex acts anywhere. Even the Playboy website has been changed, and apparently it brought in a larger and younger demographic than before. Because of this, Playboy’s models, celebrities and playmates will no longer be nude. The magazine will now be in a PG-13 format.
Neither Playboy’s founder Hugh Hefner nor CEO Scott Flanders have clarified what this exactly means. Will breasts be shown, but not crotch? Will it be just fully-clothed women in provocative poses? Will the magazine even include centerfolds anymore? At this point, we have no way of knowing, but I am fearful.
To me, this is like if the Yankees stopped playing baseball. They’re ceasing to do what they have done from literally the very beginning of their launch, compromising their artistic integrity just to appeal to the younger, more hip audience. Without the centerfolds and playmates, it could legitimately become nothing more than the men’s version of Cosmopolitan. And it’s not like these are just nudes. I didn’t look at the centerfolds because of nude women, I looked at them because they were art. Artistically shot, beautiful poses, and no amateur webcam pictures or sloppy PornHub spawn will be able to compete with the class that Playboy brought.
If you agree with me, sign this petition: Don’t remove nudes from Playboy!
Doing this could potentially mean committing financial suicide. Playboy has become iconic for this. Don’t throw it all away.
