The pony processing organ in my head still has some foreign non-pony contaminants.

    Happy Holidays

    This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

    So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

    Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

    So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

(M6)^4 by A Fistful of Apples

If I hadn’t seen the movie this is based on I would have been so lost. Decent writing though. Just not really any pony to be found. The situation is just so removed from anything in mlp and the characters are just kind of there with a surface mannerism or two. The intro bit was pretty pointless as well.

I would bet money that English is not this author’s first language. This was painful to read just because of the awkward writing. Even the language suspicion aside, this shows a lot of beginning writer mistakes. A few obvious typos as well. Not recommended.

Mareway and Hurst by BronyCray

This falls under the category of: decently written, but not really any pony in it. The lack of pony means I wouldn’t recommend it as a ponyfic. Plus it’s fairly bland. Which may have been something of the point, a bland look at a horrible event, but that still means it is bland.

The Kingdom of Palidark by Idio Adustum

Interesting concept, but lacking in execution. Writing gets worse in the second half. Which sucks because it wasn’t exactly great to begin with. My main complaint is that it doesn’t really go anywhere.

The Sound of Raindrops on Slate by Doseux

Huh. That was confusing. I feel like I was missing something for pretty much the entire story. On top of that it also felt like I was getting the summary of the story instead of the story itself. Writing was decent, maybe even good if you know what the heck is going on.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
