Hello everypony, and welcome to the first of hopefully many installments of my new 'I can prove it' blog posts, where I tell you my MLP theories and prove them. This installment (if you haven't already read the title), is about one of my favorite fillies on the show, Diamond Tiara.
... and how that perhaps, in Diamond's mind, her persecution of Apple Bloom is justified.
Allow me to explain. Take a look at Apple Bloom- she's smart, pretty, well liked, and has a loving family that will support her no matter what. Yes, she has problems (not all of them are connected to Diamond), but overall, she's had a pretty sweet life.
Now look at Diamond. Yeah, she has her money and looks, and Silver Spoon seems to be loyal enough friend. But behind that, what does she have?
A seemingly neglectful Dad.
A Mom who's completely out of the picture.
Classmates who either hate her or are too afraid to say so.
I believe in Diamond's eyes at least, Apple Bloom has a near-perfect life. Apple Bloom seems to be good at everything, and even in things that she's not good at, she's got a lucky streak that seems nigh impossible to maintain (as seen in Friends Forever #16).
And that is my theory- Diamond Tiara is jealous of Apple Bloom.
Think about it. Diamond's first appearance is presumably right after she gets her cutie mark, making Apple Bloom and Twist the only students left in class without a cutie mark (also Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, but I'm pretty sure they transferred classes or something). I don't think DT has much of a problem with Twist, but at the moment, it was two birds with one stone, I suppose.
Now's when I'm going to going into headcanon territory. My belief is that before Diamond got her cutie mark, she never liked Apple Bloom, but she kept her negative feelings hidden. But when she got her cutie mark, she finally had some leverage, something to make Apple Bloom be less than perfect for a change. But then the CMC joined together, giving Apple Bloom a faithful support group to back her up. This wasn't fair. Apple Bloom wasn't allowed to win anymore. Diamond Tiara just wanted to win at something for a change, so her determination to tear down Apple Bloom only grew from there, moving away from cutie marks and focusing her taunts on things like Bloom's family, her friend Scootaloo's disability, and even ignoring Bab's lack of a cutie mark just for an excuse to mentally torture Bloom and her friends.
While I'm not saying that Diamond's actions were in any way acceptable, at least now maybe you see why she did them in the first place.
