My Thoughts On Equestria Girls: The Friendship Games · 4:01am Sep 28th, 2015

My Thoughts On Equestria Girls: The Friendship Games:

In some ways, I think I enjoyed this film a little more than Rainbow Rocks because of the world-building aspect of the film. It was nice to see the Twilight of the human world and how she fits into the grand scheme of things.

I also like that this film puts a divide between the Equestria Girls universe and the Friendship Is Magic universe. This now opens up the possibilities of a fourth movie, where a bigger threat gets introduced into the human world. It also means that a television mini-series (or even full series) could be made which focusing entirely on the cast of characters from the human world.

I would like to see a series with these characters because it would be the closest we've come to having an American version of Sailor Moon. For some reason the magical girl genre isn't as popular in the American cartoon genre, and I am hoping that with movies like the Equestria Girls films and series like Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, it will start to catch on more.

I think if I had to make one critique about the movie, it was that the songs didn't really seem to match up with the scenes. There was just something off about the animation or something. I think Studio B needs to figure out better ways of making the human characters interact with the surrounding environment while they are singing more interesting. Like for example, you can't just have Twilight stand in a building and sing. You need to change up the animation, and make things abstract. And during the competition song, you can't even really tell which side is singing, which is a big problem, story-telling wise.

I would have also liked to see more character development when it came to the Shadow Bolts. Every time they are on screen they act like major jerks, with the exception of the last ten minutes or so of the film. This really didn't make me like them, or want to be invested in them a much as I was interested in The Sirens from Rainbow Rocks. I also do not like the Principle of Crystal Prep, Abacus Cinch. There is literally nothing redeeming about her character and she doesn't learn her lesson by the end of the film. But for some reason no one thinks of reporting her to the school board or taking away her position as principle of the school.

What I think would have been better would have been to have Abacus Cinch stripped of her position and to have Dean Cadance take her place. And then you get to see how Principle Cadance makes positive changes at Crystal Prep, potentially with Shining Armor helping her along the way. But instead we get a rather open-ended finish to the film where Twilight joins Canterlot High School, Abacus Cinch gets away, and you assume that the students of Crystal Prep are going to start acting a little less jerky, seeing as their actions almost caused the human world to be thrown into utter chaos and all.

I also would have liked to see Twilight make up with the Shadow Bolt girls she competed with and maybe teach them something about the magic of friendship. But that also kind of got thrown out the window in favor for a more open-ended finish to the film.

Overall, I enjoyed this film, despite its flaws. You never know. The DVD release might address the issues I've brought up here, once again confirming that Hasbro and Studio B really do stalk their fans...I mean read the things they write. Yeah. We'll go with that one.

You know I'm glad you addresses the DVD thing I'm not sure if this film is cut or not and I can't find out

And EQG 3 as Americas sailor moon...I could dig it. Sailor moon was my jam as a boy so maybe that's why I always was cool with this series of films

3426324 I'm almost certain that there were some things cut out of this film. For one thing, there almost always is extra scenes in the credits as they roll by and usually a hidden scene afterwards. The scene with the pony Twilight coming through the portal was more like a funny end to the actual film, not a hidden end scene. And because this aired on television, we have no idea what animated scenes could have played during the credits that were cut for time.

I also think that certain scenes could have potentially been cut out of the television showing of the film to be able to fit the appropriate airing spot. But maybe not. We will only know for sure when someone buys a copy of the DVD.

3426333 I've heard things about deleted scenes and I cross my fingers for a extension of that final battle.

3426337 That would be pretty awesome. I would like to see more of a battle scene between Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer.

3426342 oh yeah also the film is a full 72 minutes so if the tv version was not a full 72 minutes then things are cut

3426350 I actually didn't check the run time of the television version so I'm not sure. :P

3426355 dang....that's ok...didn't expect many people to

3426358 I want to have the delusional idea that there are more scenes. :rainbowlaugh:

But yeah...the DVD will tell all. And will probably cut down all of my dreams. :raritydespair:

3426387 yeah one can only hope

3426392 Well, there is always fan fiction. :derpytongue2:

3426395 I think I found something ? Maybe the link leads to a UNCUT version what that means idk??
