On my blog because apparently there are rules against updates without any actual story content, my apologies once again to the moderators
MOVING ON!
So, good news is that I was able to get the files off my hard drive, and everything is near-as-I-can-tell okay. Prevention still ain't done, because the time that I'd planned to use to work on it today was eaten up trying to make sure that it hadn't been fragged, but I at least now have the capability to continue with it, WHICH I WILL BE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, I've spent over three years on her and I'll be damned if I'm giving up now.
Bad news is my laptop's still borked - I'm writing this on my brother's older, significantly smaller one, with its tiny cramped keyboard that makes writing properly a bitch and a half. Plus the university assignments that I have to get out of the way and am now significantly more twitchy about getting done ASAP before Murphy decides to shit on this old girl too. I have what was supposed to be the first scene of the final chapter done - ~3500 words in all - which I'm considering editing and uploading by itself just to give you guys SOMETHING (my concern is more on that it's arguably a bigger cliffhanger than the previous chapter than the fact that it's only the first part of what I'd intended to have done), and I'll be spending as much time as I can tomorrow on getting it as close to done as possible.
Once more my apologies and once more my gratitude for those of you who've put up with all of this.

I'm laughing right now because I actually finally managed to finish the final chapter yesterday. After 50,000 words worth of revisions and about a dozen false starts.
(The actual chapter is ~7000 words, barring last-minute edits).
It'll be up on Sunday.
