In some universe... it's next Saturday. Can I be in that universe? I want it to be Saturday right now. Then I don't have to wait for hoers.

edit: in which I learn that hoers refers to... something else.

3416615 On Monday it was Halloween, apparently.

3416631 And what a very fine Halloween it was. *cough*

3416631

Dangit! I missed that, too...

Alright, who's screwing around with the timeline?

Totally bought Rarity being able to be a detective. But the villain was dissapointing. Lightning Dust would have been better. Yet again the Bolts reputation takes a hit. Why should Rainbow join their ranks with these klnd of things happening.

Rarity is best flirt pone.

I really liked this one. Yes, the culprit was obvious -- but no more obvious than the surprise birthday party in "Party of One". I loved the stylishness of it all -- the lighting in the "Royal Guards interrogation" scene was fantastic -- and it was so nice to have a Rainbow/Rarity episode after all this time. The only reason it's not up there with the likes of "Amending Fences" is the iffy setup: the Wonderbolts were absurdly quick to accuse Rainbow Dash. Soarin talks later about 'Bolts looking out for each other -- does it not apply to reserves, then? :rainbowhuh:

TPrower, in his reaction commentary, noticed something I hadn't (and hadn't seen anyone else mention) -- when Dash and Wind Rider are practising and Rainbow briefly moves ahead, WR really looks ticked for a moment.

That episode really did have a ton of shipping fuel for Rarity and Rainbow.

3416680
She went beyond flirting there. Especially with the guards.

It was a great episode, but can someone please explain to me what the point of the part with the mailpony was? It doesn't seem to really connect to the rest of the episode at all, and no one I've talked to has been able to explain it.

3416715
He was there for Rarity to practice her power of seduction on.

3416694

No, Wind Rider was quick to accuse Rainbow Dash. And she also happened to be the only one who'd benefit with Spitfire's absence. The rest just followed his lead, as herd species tend to do.

And yes, A Rarity and Rainbow Dash episode after all these years.. I was DYING to finally see this.

3416666 Um, did you not see how the Wonderbolts stood up to Wind Rider after he had been exposed? It's clear that his actions are inexcusable for a Wonderbolt. Say what you will about Rainbow Falls, but even if Spitfire's intentions were as callous as they appeared (which I don't think they were), at least she had the courtesy not to drag a fraudulent family tragedy into the mix. There are some lines you just don't cross. :trixieshiftright:

Anyway, it's hard for me to talk about this episode without gushing all over the place. Rarity's film noir narration was a joy to listen to, the mystery itself was compelling (even though the culprit was hinted at, but no one says every mystery has to be a whodunit), and I honestly felt the Wonderbolts were portrayed in a much more positive light. I was honestly grinning like an idiot the entire time. :rainbowkiss:

I normally ship Rarity with Applejack but she and Rdash were all over each other that episode. I guess what happens in Canterlot stays in Canterlot.

This was a fantastic episode.

The traits and detail orientation needed for detective work fit perfectly, and I loved how much into the role Rarity was getting into. I thought it was interesting how she was able to keep her cool so many times with Rainbow Dash. Surely, I thougot she was going to get upset a few times and snap at Dash.

The mystery wasn't that complex, but that is understandable. Also, was it just me or was there a incredible about of Wonderbolts that looked like Spitfire?

Also, the ammo in this episode for Rarity x Dash was more than enough to write a solid shipfic about them.

They didn't even TRY for subtle. :rainbowkiss::duck:

3416763 the issue they were quick to accuse Rainbow with ZERO proof. They threw her under the bus. then one of their greats turns out to be a cheat. Through nearly every appearance of the of the bolts they do something very negative. Hence why many now question why she would join them at this point. they have little sense of loyalty.

Anyone else thinking Wind Rider = Flynn Rider?

3416726

The rest just followed his lead, as herd species tend to do.

Yeah... except that Soarin and Spitfire, especially, know Rainbow Dash very well from past escapades. She's not any old Reserve. I'd have hoped they'd be a little more, well, loyal to her. (And how come Rainbow has to prove her innocence? Burden of proof, anyone?)

3416805 Well, they had what appeared to be proof pointing to her. They just gave her a chance instead of roundly dismissing her. The ep was contrived and bordering on silly, but I loved the noir bits.

Eh, I never ship the mane six together, just makes their friendship and bonding less important, but loooooved this episode, Rarity should do this more often!

3416776 - I believe that if the fashion business doesn't work out for Rarity, she could make a fortune as an actress of stage and screen. She's smart, creative, good-looking, and a master of being dramatic.

3416805 You forgot Equestria still has a feudal system. I assume they probably still burn Unicorns at the stake.

3416800 They didn't accuse her of anything. The thought hadn't even crossed their minds until Wind Rider planted it there. And if they really believed him outright, they wouldn't have given Dashie a chance to defend herself.

Also, to say that Wind Rider represents the mentality of all of the Wonderbolts is just a prime example of the No True Scotsman argument, which is highly erroneous. Heck, Spitfire flew to the ends of Equestria just to get medicine for her sick mother, for crying out loud. That doesn't sound like a pony who's only interested in her own self-worth to me. I maintain that while the Wonderbolts have made their share of mistakes, they aren't bad ponies. Wind Rider is an exception to this, not the rule. :rainbowdetermined2:

3416856

She is already also a professional mane dresser and singer as well as an amateur woodworker/carpenter.

Yeah... this episode was pretty good!

It is my headcanon, and has for a while, that Rainbow Dash and Rarity will eventually accidentally run in the same Canterlot social circle because of the high-class events RD would be invited to as a Wonderbolt.

I guess it isn't really headcanon anymore.

My Little Pony: Flirting is Magic :raritywink:

3416864 Look at the past. they threw soarin under the bus. allowed Lightning to be so reckless and now this. again at the point the accusation flies there is NO proof she did anything. Yet she has to defend herself. Not cool. If they used any of the evidence first it be more buyable.

3416805

And how come Rainbow has to prove her innocence? Burden of proof, anyone?

To be fair, the claim "I didn't do it, period" is a positive claim, ergo Rainbow has the burden of proof. But yes, the fact that the Wonderbolts treat her as guilty until she's proven innocent is rather silly. However, it's not like we haven't seen this trope before. The rule "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't often make for a good story. There had to be some sort of dramatic tension. Is it fallacious? Absolutely. But that's the fault of the trope, not the Wonderbolts. :twistnerd:

3416719
But that isn't relevant to the rest of the episode at all. This episode was all about her observation and deduction abilities, not her ability to flirt. If the first few minutes of the episode are going to be used to establish any character traits, it should be the ones that the episode focuses on. And it did show us her attention to detail with the dresses, so that was good, but then it decided to show us what a great flirt she is too, which isn't really relevant at all.

I couldn't care less if the mystery was a bit poorly executed. The Interactions of the two best mane 6 ponies are what made this episode great for me.

Nice pics.

3416892 Again, I don't think it was Spitfire's intention to throw Soairn' under the bus in Rainbow Falls. I wrote an entire story about this back when the episode first aired, and I continue to maintain that position.

As for Lightning Dust, well, that's not a good indication of the Wonderbolt mentality, either. Spitfire saw that Lightning Dust was getting results, but she didn't see how she was getting those results and the damage she was doing. Once this was brought to light, Lightning was kicked out of the Academy for her reckless behavior. Your argument would make a lot more sense if Lightning Dust was still a member of the Wonderbolt Academy, but she's not. :unsuresweetie:

Also, there was proof against Rainbow Dash. Granted, it was all circumstantial evidence, but they had some reasoning. Rainbow Dash is a member of the Reserves. She has a good motive to get Spitfire out of the picture so she could fly with them at the big ceremony. Her room was also next to Spitfire's, meaning she could've easily walked into her room and given her the note. But again, that's all circumstantial. And Rarity proved that once she blew the case wide open. :raritywink:

This episode was definitely a keeper for me. The only thing that soured the episode for me was seeing some people's knee-jerk reactions and instantly going for all of the Wonderbolts' throats without actually listening to what was actually said in the episode.

3416919 all they had was a weak motive. No proof. Heck Rainbow Falls should have made it known she wouldn't do that. THe story in this was weak. Lightning Dust would have been much better of a villain for this.

3416897 no she has no burden. it up to the accusers to provide proof first.

This is probably the #1 most late episode discussion site post! It's nearly next Saturday :rainbowlaugh: Anyway, I loved that episode. I loved how Rarity is a good investigator (Probably better than Twilight) and I liked how she acted seductively to get what she wanted :raritywink: All in all, an awesome episode. I hope the next episode will not get a late discussion post :twilightsheepish:

3416897 "i didn't do it" is a negative claim.

For only things dislike in this episode is Rarity flirt. The things it make feels that oneday someone going make a yandere fic because Rarity flirt with the wrong pony.

I think this was a great episode. I especially liked all the film noir parts. If her fashion business ever fails, Rarity could start working as a badass detective. :raritywink:

3416666 you would have thought RD earned the trust/respect of the wonderbolts by now, she proved her integrity during the lightning dust episode, made the difficult decision to stick with her team instead of joining spitfire's ("wonderbolts stick up for each other" huh soarin? tell that to spitfire), put on top of that helping to save equestria more times than they ever could and yet they still accuse her of something so callous as to remove spitfire from the scene for her own gain. i think we all know that if RD was going to do something under handed she would have taken the direct approach instead of something slightly more complex (at least i think she would keep things simple, she seems too lazy.):rainbowlaugh:

lets face it, the only reason why RD wants to join the wonderbolts is to reach the title of the best flier, but honestly i think she already is the best flier and joining the wonderbolts would just restrict her.

3416995 Wouldn't a negative claim be "I reject the assertion that I did it?" Maybe it's just semantics; I've been listening to debate logic for too long. Anyway, the point remains that it's a stupid trope, but it's not the Wonderbolts' fault that it's a stupid trope.

3416932 Again, I must point out that they gave Rainbow a chance. Forget the stupid trope logic for a second; I acknowledge that's a thing. But wouldn't a better argument against the Wonderbolts' character be that they didn't give her a chance and just gave her the boot right then and there? They clearly didn't do that. They wanted to trust Rainbow Dash; she just had to earn it. Granted, she shouldn't have, but I must reiterate that it's the trope's fault. :duck:

This was a really fantastic episode all around. However, I feel the Wonderbolts need some serious leadership changes and trust excercises. They all went with the accusations just way too quickly and didn't do a proper investigation. Why are the Wonderbolts constantly portrayed in a negative light?

3416805
3416944
3416897
You know, the actual person who bears the burden of proof depends on the society, there are ones where the assumption is not "innocent until proven guilty." Equestria is not America and making assumptions about their legal system is dangerous.

3416897
"Innocent until proven guilty" is a principle for the courts. The Wonderbolts' own bylaws are a different thing, and Soarin, as the acting leader in Spitfire's absence, was probably entirely within his rights (and likely doing his duty) by removing Dash from her position as a reserve flier on suspicion of trying to sabotage the show.

Also, I took it that he was essentially saying "If you can prove you didn't send the fake note to Spitfire before the showtime, we can let you fly with us; otherwise, you're grounded until the truth of the matter is found out, no matter how long it takes... and if you were behind this, you're never going to be a Wonderbolt."

Also also, I've seen people commenting that if Wind Rider was, perhaps, the commander of the Wonderbolts before Spitfire (entirely possible, given his "living legend" status), it would explain a lot about the "win at any cost" attitude the 'Bolts have occasionally shown in the past. I agree with this idea.

3417051 She should have a need to do so to begin with. Say the idea that Soarin is second in command and Rarity didn't investigate so she was banned from flying. Heck let's say they kick her from the reverse and then the truth came out. How could the bolts ever recover from that. Dash would be interested in joining them anymore and with an Elemnt bearer who is also fairly close to the Princesses they got to be really careful of accusing one. Again NO PROOF. this part was badly written.
