Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Friendship is Card Games: d20 Pony, Ch. 9, Pt. 1

Goodness, it’s been almost two years since I last checked in on Trailblazer’s adventures. IDW putting out comics almost as quickly as I could review them will do that, especially given all of the G5 video media coming out concurrently.

    Conflicted Crossroads

I have an interesting dilemma with an upcoming story, and thus I turn to the Fimfic public (or that portion of it that sees these blogs) for its wisdom.

Firstly, an open question: Should I announce new stories and chapters via blog? I see a lot of other people do it, and I'm not sure why. Logically, anyone who follows me is going to see the story announcements and anyone who follows the story is going to see the new chapter notifications and the story itself in the appropriate bookshelves. Still, I figure there's some reason behind it.

Secondly, as the blog title indicates, I've had to go back an make a minor adjustment to the most recent chapter of Oversaturation, since I found a slight issue when looking for reference pictures. The changes are after the break, sandwiched between two unchanged lines:

"Can I get a ride back to CHS? I'm definitely not going to be able to go back the way I came."

Vinyl nodded, but Octavia still looked unsure. "We came in Vinyl's car, and that only seats two."

Pinkie waved it off. "Don't worry, we'll figure out something."

Octavia looked Pinkie over from head to toe. "Given your track record, I dare say we will."

"Hold it!"

I'd say don't announce stories and chapters via blog, it's a bit of a pointless signal boost even if it works.

Except if there's some other material in the blog post - an idea you want to explain in "author's notes", a celebration of a milestone, or a series of custom MTG cards themed after the new chapter.

For the first question, although I cannot understand how or why people do so, it is my impression that most users here follow waaaaaaaaaay more users and stories than they can actually keep up with. I see people talking about having thousands of unread chapters in their shelves, thousands of stories in their "Read Later"s, and see screenshots with triple digits of unread notifications on the Feed button. I figure blogging about updates makes it a bit more likely that more people will notice them amid the noise :applejackunsure:

Plus there's just the fact that blogging is activity, and the more activity, the less likely people will think I'm dead v0v

Huh. Blogging about new stories and chapters is very much a thing that I do, though I typically do it in anticipation of publishing them soon rather than posting at the same time my new material gets published. I'm not entirely sure why I do it, either, but I was planning on doing such a post in the near future. It might be as a sort of signal boost, or to let my readers know that I'm not dead yet and in fact will soon rouse from my long slumber. Alternatively, it might be some practical reason like looking for ever-elusive prereaders and proofies.

I certainly see nothing wrong with posting blogs about new stories coming out. They give you a good time to let readers know what the story will be about in more detail than would be acceptable on the story's main page and give readers a better idea of whether the story will be worth their time. Also, being on a hype train is fun, so there's that as well.

I do. :/ I kinda feel it's a bad habit, though, so I try to include stuff that A) isn't already in the A/N and B) will make the story sound interesting without spoiling it. I also try, in the case of new stories, to suggest recommend it to people who liked similar pieces.

I mean, who's gonna see it? Your followers already get a notification that you've posted. People who've just read the fic aren't gonna know. (Unless you're like and blog hours and hours after the story goes up, so the tagging works. :V)

I'd say do it for new stories, but not new chapters. It's easier to miss stories in the feed since they'll only show up once unless you start following that story, plus you might actually have something to say about the story.

Huh, I thought you were correcting the part about the girls having only pony ears when transformed (and both human and pony ears as you wrote a few times).
