SpaceCommie: This story is like Lunatics' fraternal twin brother separated at birth
Sharp Spark: Haha
Sharp Spark: Wait, really? Howso?
SpaceCommie: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/222206/daybreak
SpaceCommie: Shit dude, he's even using the same chapter naming convention as I am
Sharp Spark: Wow. That's... really long
SpaceCommie: My only major advantage, as nearly as I can tell, is that I am funnier. Considerably.
Sharp Spark: Heh.
Sharp Spark: You should kidnap him and steal his powers of profriglancy to make one invincible super-Lunatics writer.
SpaceCommie: Clearly.
SpaceCommie: Actually I need to write erotic pairings of his "Knights" with my Lunatics
Sharp Spark: oh my god, there you go
SpaceCommie: Time Turner X Colgate OTP
Sharp Spark: Here is a man who understands how fanfiction is supposed to operate
More below the fold.
Okay, so anyways, I am three chapters into Daybreak. It is fantastic. You should read it. (Preferably without coming back and asking me questions about why Hobby writes literally ten times faster than I do, which may very well make me cry.)
Oh, also, don't worry, there is another update of Lunatics in the works. I could, however, do with some prereading help. Anyone who's read Lunatics so far could probably help me out. Contact me on Skype (search for "spacecommie"), send me a PM, or just respond in the comments.
Already reading it.
The next question is, have you looked into the other stories in the series? There's like four or five of them, including a fairly long one that just finished.

I noticed.
On a lark I did an in-site Google search to find out whether anyone had referenced "The Lunatics" other than, you know, me. I found some guy declaring that Daybreak is "It's sort of like that other fanfic The Lunatics, except this is way more epic." I'm not entirely sure I agree, but it's ten times as long and has half the views. I wanted to do something to rectify that.
This sort of answers your question: no, I haven't looked into the other stories in the series. Truth be told, I don't read an awful lot of ponyfic, and I've been reading even less since my number of active editing clients has shrunken over the last year or so.

Interesting - this came up in a recommended stories discussion just a week back. Coincidence... or is there something sinister going on?
Or maybe Sharp came across it as a result of that post, I suppose. EDIT: nevermind that... I guess it's sinister coincidence after all.
Anyhow, if you like Daybreak, I suggest taking a look at the rest of the stories in the continuity. They're all worth a read, and I personally consider Daybreak to be middle-of-the-road in quality compared to the others (though I'm not fully caught up on it yet, so that opinion may change with later chapters). While events in earlier stories impact the later ones, they all stand on their own pretty well, so you don't need to tackle them in order of publishing; just start with whichever looks the most interesting to you.
All of the stories are linked in each of the descriptions, but if you don't want to scroll down to them, here's a list of the
Extant Heart's Promise stories:
Fahr Drill (short)
Lord Mayor Applejack (medium)
The Unmitigated Disaster (short, sequel to Fahr Drill)
Scootaloo Will Fly! (medium/long)
Nature In The Wild (short)
Daybreak (long, ongoing)
Lightning Struck Home (short/medium)
In The Absence Of Sunset Shimmer (medium/long)
An Equestrian Griffon (short)
I did it first!

Actually, as I mentioned to djthomp, I came across the story as I looking for places where people had mentioned The Lunatics on FIMFiction (i.e. I typed [ site:fimfiction.net "The Lunatics" ] into Google and looked through the results.

Oh, oops, looks like I flipped the names somehow while reading. I suppose that would make more sense....
