Mente Materia Lets Play... STARTED. · 2:57am Sep 14th, 2015

God help me, I've done it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWSGH5DH5hU

Edit:

In all seriousness, this first video was just so that I could play around with the video software and to test how bad my voice sounds when recorded. >_> The first -real- video with gameplay and stuff should be done just as soon as the panic wears off...

Edit 2:

I found out what the problem was with the voice. What I -had- been doing is piping the game track through my external speakers because I couldn't hear it in my recordings when I had my headset speakers on.

It turns out that the recording software had the ratio of voice to system sound so lopsided that I couldn't hear anything BUT my voice. I've since tweaked that, so I'm hoping to avoid that in the future! Thanks again for everyone's feedback on this first step!

you need to adjust your voice volume, it is currently to low.

Oh? It sounded fine to me...

(Side note, this is EXACTLY why I did just a little video first, if an issue comes up it's only a 1 minute video that's bad, not an hour long Beaglerush video. >_>)

3391614 had to turn it up about 15% from regular to get to conversation lvl.

Might be we use different system sound levels. For me your voice is quite quiet. Though it might not be the voice specifically and just the general sound being low for the video as a whole.

Volume sounds good to me, mostly. Might want to dial down the game volume a smidge, and tone your voice back accordingly. But I'm still excited!

I think your voice sounds great, if a little bit quiet, and I look forward to seeing the letsplay unfold. Any plans for a renaming pattern for your soldiers?

Thanks for the feedback on the audio stuff, everyone! I'm messing with the settings on my recording software now.

Hum... interesting! Maybe watching this let's play will finally make me unpack that "XCOM: Enemy Unknown Complete Pack" I bought at the last steam sale.

Also, your voice gets harder to listen at around 1min: the background music becomes louder than you.

Other than making sure voice volume is up and turning down the game sounds a tad for better voice volume, not too shabby. You didn't sound too panicked and you spoke clearly and concisely. Look forward to seeing actual gameplay next time. :ajsmug:

Looking forward to seeing how this goes so far it seems to like this will quite an interesting playthrough of the long war mod

:trixieshiftright:

MMmmmmmmmmokayyy... I guess I'll watch you do a Let's Play series. It's not like I don't want more XCOM in my life. :raritywink:

Sigh, I really want to see this because it looks like a lot of fun, but I have not played XCOM yet and will be in the near future so I really want to avoid mission spoilers that will give me an unfair advantage when I play through the campaign. Oh well, I guess I'll just wait and come back to it later.

On another note, it would be a good idea to do another quick test video to see if you have the issues worked out so it might be a good idea to go over the mods you are using, what they do, and why you are using them to help set up the series. That would also be a useful reference for people like me so we know what mods we should pick up to avoid stumbling around blindly.

Hey, just calm down, it's gonna be fine. :pinkiehappy:
You know, you already proved you got what might just be the two most important things for doing a Let's Play!
One, you have recorded a very calm intro/test video, showing that you can do it despite your panic.
Two, you have a voice that's pleasant to listen to.

Nearly everything else problematic that can crop up will be some technical issue, and those can be fixed, often quite easily.

So remember:
DON'T PANIC.

Everything will be just fine.

Instant sub! I'll be ready and waiting for the actual part 1 :pinkiehappy:

Well done. I'm happy to see that you decided to go through with the Let's Play. You have a good voice for it. As others have said, your voice is a hair on the soft side, and the game volume could come down just a tad.

I'm looking forward to see what game settings you use. Best of luck in the campaign!

My god your voice is majestic, and that EXALT picture is glorious.

I get the feeling this is going to be a good let's play.

Watch out, Beagle. There's a new commander in the base.

Best of luck with this new project. Here's hoping the memorial wall isn't overflowing with our favorite ponies by the end of the first act. Long War may be magnificent, but it is not for the faint of heart.

Well, look who's late to the party, (me). Not that I should be surprised, I'm usually offline (online on the net, offline on individual sites) for extended periods. Anyway, watching XCOM Let's Plays is my new drug, so I'm looking forward to this one. See you down the road.
