My Thoughts on "Canterlot Boutique" · 10:13pm Sep 12th, 2015
I don't know if this is because that there's been a long hiatus, or if this was just excellent, but I loved this freaking episode. And I have some things to say about it. Here are my thoughts on season 5's triumphant return and this week's episode, Canterlot Boutique.

I don't think it's a secret that Rarity is my least favorite of the Mane Six. In fact, I'd be hard-pressed to think of a Rarity episode that was anything better than tolerable (except for, like, Suited for Success. That was great). However, this episode may have bumped Rares up to at least number 5 spot. For about the first ten minutes of the episode, I was entirely silent. Then, around the time Sassy Saddles came forward, I paused it and said "Oh my god, is this a good Rarity episode?" And it was.
Speaking of Sassy Saddles, I don't really know how I feel about her. She was a decent enough character, but her design irked me a little. She was far too... Pointy. She was pointy and long and odd and angular. That said, her colors were good, and I was fascinated with her hair. As far as I can remember, she's the only pony to seem to use hairspray. Her mane seemed to be like a big lizard scale.
The episode was well done, the song was fantastic (I see it as Rarity's Smile Song) and we finally got to see how much Rarity actually succeeded with her business. It was wonderful to see her creative genius actually at work for once, and we got some actually good looking dress. The Celestia and Luna dresses were amazing, and I really hope they find their way back into the series. As the episode continues, it gives an interesting look at success, and what that could mean. It was great to see Rarity slowly lose control of her dream until it becomes something repulsive. It was interesting, and a pretty good thing for the kids to see. It's important for young folk to learn that achieving your dream might not be what you dreamed it as. It also teaches an important lesson: Artistic integrity. Don't be a sell-out, kids. If success causes you to go against your vision or what you believe, guess what? You don't need that success. I can only speak for myself, of course, but I'd far rather be a genius and a failure, rather than a successful robot.
Little bits on this episode that I simply adored: That beginning bit where Pinkie inexplicably makes and eats strawberry cinnamon cilantro cupcakes, which are disgusting. Yet, she never stops eating. The plethora of brand new background ponies was really nice to see, particularly that goth/emo pony near the end. I don't know her name, or where she came from, but she is my new favorite background character. Sorry, Tavi.
One last thing: What. The. Fudge. With that fat pony at the end?
Overall, I rate this episode at a flawless 10 out of 10. The song was on point, good lesson, good villain, and it really actually made me contemplate my thoughts on Worst Mane Six. Truly well done, to a surprising extent. I am shocked, and currently reevaluating my life. Wonder what this could mean for the other characters. Could somepony else come gunning for number 1?

3389942 Her design and sudden appearance baffled me. I'm not sure if I like her or not. That Cutie Mark, however, is flawless, and I do really like how she had no shoulders. Very interesting, and I'm curious as to what she could possibly be called
3389977 I saw one post that called her Butter Ball, but I find that name a meh at best.
Sassy Saddle's design reminds me of Fleur de Lis. She was like, a villainous non-villain. Possibly a stuck-up rich girl. What actually stands out to me is how obnoxiously tall she is. (And how tall the fat pony is.)
omg, I just thought about it, and I would love to see the Celestia/Luna dresses back later, but in the presence of one of the princesses (who will look curiously at the dress). This will have to be a completely nonverbal affair. An Easter Egg of sorts.
Those cupcakes. I feel Pinkie on this one... she made them and is like "I deserve this *eats* this is so terrible *eat* somepony help me eat these *eat* I wouldn't suggest it though. SAVE YOURSELF" - or maybe that's just me when I do something utterly stupid.
