Icefire asked:
Do you guys have any kind of relationship outside of writing? And if so, did you meet through writing or some other way? Just curiosity, if you don't want to answer, I understand.
DJthomp asked:
Here's a question I've been wondering about for a while now, but feel free to ignore it if it's too personal (and my apologies in advance if it is). Are the two of you a couple?
Dale asked:
Are you old friends with Crystal Wishes?
Well, those are just three questions but we've been receiving this one a lot lately. We've discussed it and now is as good a time as any to answer. Before I answer, however, I need to make something clear: Crystal is not exactly Crystal Wishes and I am not exactly Silent Knight.
Crystal and I are married, we live together, and have been together for about five years. We met through a mutual friend and really hit it off.
Prior to doing anything in the MLP realm we've done a little collaborative writing on a fantasy novel that didn't really get anywhere. Crystal was also one of the key editors for the non-fiction works I've had published. Writing is a passion we share. It didn't bring us together though.
Why keep it a secret? Three main reasons:
1. People make assumptions about our interactions. I jump in on Crystal's story and say something and folks assume I'm just defending my wife. My wife is a strong woman and she can defend herself. Sometimes I just want to comment. This is why we typically don't comment on each other's stories.
2. People make assumptions about the story. SK and CW OTP because you're married you're them! Yeah... no. CW is somewhat of Crystal's avatar. SK is only a fraction of me. CW and SK didn't get together because we're married. They got together because I needed a female lead prior to starting the story and chose an OC Crystal had made that I liked a lot. Additionally, just because we're married don't assume that they'll end up to together. Life is life. Story is story.
3. Mystery is fun. Sometimes knowing all the answers can ruin something. Even after reading the above most people's perspective is going to shift slightly since you now know, for a fact, we're not only together but REALLY together. Physically, married, in the same house, etc.
And thus the secret is no longer a secret :D
Dale asked:
Secondly! how committed are you to online anonymity? I'm just asking about your gender and living context honestly. No matter who you are you have had to write for the opposite sex and I find that interesting, I also have some questions and observations on that topic but I think I'll see if you reply first before I break open the dam. Oftentimes, the author is nearly as interesting as the story.
Relatively committed but if people try hard enough they can find anyone with as large a web presence as I have. One of our Patreon backers already did ;) (And I don't mind. If you're going to invest money you should see who you're dealing with).
I'm a male. Crystal is a female.
Y'know, I was pretty sure things were this way. I can't imagine anyone sharing a matched pair of kissing/nuzzling avatars unless they were involved somehow, no matter how close to each other they are while writing.
Curses! Now I am obligated to care about you as an actual person!!!
Lies. You're both women, and the interaction between Crystal and Velvet are based off of you. That's why the story will pull a "your princess is in another castle" and end up as CrystalStep.
The secret is out!
I still feel slightly awkward having asked that question, especially since it was technically the first one I sent through the ask blog. I'll try to come up with something else more story related next time.
Wait -- that was a secret?
I knew there was a conspiracy. Nobody ships OCs together unless you know each other. *runs off and ships Pencil Melody OC with someone else's OC* But yes, I completely understand. I would be the same way, that is, if I were older and married, lol. I still think there's a conspiracy.

I KNEW IT!!! Hehehe anyway I was curious too but i figured you would tell all in time. Thanks for sharing with us.
The worst part of this is having confirmation that you are not, in fact, Silent Knight and Crystal Wishes.
I really wanted to have tea with a unicorn, so this like, just the worst. I guess I'll just have to settle for being the first and likely only person who ever compared your wife to yogurt in a way that was complimentary and perhaps even flattering.
Bet that's a sentence you never thought you'd read!
Thank you for answering the Question. I can understand the assumptions you didn't want made, and get that. Makes it all the more awesome that you answered.
And I don't assume people are what their OC's are. Even if it's first person or an admitted self-insert. I find the former is usually a preferred writing style (I've seen well done Mane 6 First Person Narratives), and the latter usually involves how the author wishes they were/see themselves as, not who they actually are.
So, that overly worded comment basically says: Thanks for answering the question, and my perception didn't really shift all that much other than a bit of added depth to the authors themselves.
Oh, and if my OTP doesn't work out... We understand each other? Good.
Finally, as always, you guys are awesome, I love your writing, and may the force ever be in your favour.
-Starlight Dancer-
You're together IRL?
Now that's cute
That is something I've been pondering for a while now.
Well then, good luck with your writing and your personal life in general. You guys make a lot of people happy with the stories you share!
A mild surprise, but one that makes me grin evilly.
I just hope that the story isn't going to change now that we know what we already suspected. I more or less got on board because it's one of the real adventure/romances on this site, I know no life is perfect, but sometimes it's nice to take a break from real life and just enjoy something sweet. So here's hoping. Also I am interested in checking out other possible literary works you've done, if you don't want to say here perhaps pm me. It'd be great to have, and I think I'd enjoy reading other works. Till next time!
Finally a confirmation abaut you and Crystal Wishes. The secret was fun but your strong reaction on any touch of the topic kindda hinted something is on the thing. Or I have broken memory. Propably the latter.
EDIT: you also never telled a thing abaut your wife
You actually produced something before? Mind telling the skeleton of the story in the future?
