Hey everypony, I've got a new story idea that I'm excited to be working on. Already got an artist chugging out some art for me! I love you Aoki! You're awesome. 
Anyway, to the question at hoof. This new fic I'm going to be writing is all about the creatures of Equestria. Does anybody have some interesting headcannons about certain creatures? I'm going to be writing these creatures based off of their depiction in the show, mythologies, and my own personal headcannons. So what do you all think?
What kinds of characteristics would these creatures have beyond what we've seen in the show?
I'm pretty sure he creatures living in the Everfree forest must be pretty feral,
a bit like that thing that Pinkie pie meets when she goes to Yayakistan, It would explain why the ponies fear so much going there,
Surviving there, would be like being Rambo, or Zecora, she seems to be able to make the WIldlife either fear her, or respect her.
Do you count Changelings as part of the Equesrian WIldflife ?

I'm thinking anything rare in Equestria that most ponies wouldn't see every day. And not all creatures are feral in the Everfree. Steven Magnet and the Manticore show signs of cognitive though (particularly the manticore when it "talks" with Fluttershy in episode 2).
More specifically, just any ideas on facts about the creatures? Like what makes them unique and different from other things? Are they herbivores in disguise? Do they sleep upside down? Stuff like that. Just want to hear what others have to say about the wildlife.
3380692 Well from what we've seen for now, there's a Chimera, a green Dragon, a Manticore, a Cockatrice, Steven magnet and an Hydra
If you look closely most of those creatures are demon-like creatures, like the Cockatrice and the Chimera, they all share a lot of parts from other animals, and for somewhere reputed to be hellish creatures, could it be because of the influence of the gate of Tartarus nearby ? who knows ?
The dragon lives alone, he pretty much hates everything and is a bit like the king of the forest, there's nothing else to match him,
The Manticore and The chimera would pretty much lives the same way, trying to claim a part of the forest, their part.
though i would see the Cockatrice living in a....pack ?
living in caves and helping each other.

I have an interesting theory about the manticores. They're made up of lions, scorpions, and bat/dragons? (leathery wings). I'm saying that they go around in prides and hunt like the lions and eat meat. But since they're not necessarily an apex predator in the Everfree Forest, cause everything that was ever dangerous lives in the Everfree, I have the headcannon that the scorpion venom that they have is a hallucinogenic that assists them in avoiding being eaten by higher predators.
3380735 pretty much, they would choose a part of the forest where they mostly find smaller or weaker animals (deer, rabbits...)
the venom could be a good way to catch easily a fast prey, since the manticores must be immune to it, they won't mind eating a poisoned prey.
in the middle of the forest, after the old castle, you could find the dragon.

Mhm, though he's not just rare, he's one of a kind.
