Writing with Sushi Blog #2 What is My Little Pony? Part 1

Before I begin, this is a request from Thunder Power as they have just begun to delve into the mlp fandom and wish to know more. This is for anyone who is unsure about certain aspects of the show and don't want to search all over the wiki. I'm going to try and condense the basic ideas all into one nice little package with a big sparkly bow. Next blog will be about the characters specifically and staying in character whilst writing your very own fanfiction. Without further ado, My Little Pony in one blog. (also if you aren't caught up at certain points this may contain spoilers, you have been warned.)

So you probably know the basic concepts of the show. The unicorn from Canterlot (basically the central district of Equestria where all the high esteemed ponies live) Twilight Sparkle is sent to Ponyville by the Princess of the Sun, Princess Celestia, soshe can learn lessons about friendship and report back to the princess every day via letter. Twilight has her assistant Spike the baby dragon who can send the letter to Celestia by breathing fire on them. It works for receiving them as well. Twilight makes friends with Fluttershy, the shy timid animal lover pegasus, Pinkie Pie, the hyper, off the wall party planner/baker earth pony, Applejack, the hard-working earth pony farmer on Sweet Apple Acres, Rainbow Dash, the speed demon pegasus who never wants to lose, and finally Rarity, the over dramatic, but generous, unicorn fashionista. A bit of background info regarding workplaces and such: Pinkie works in the bakery SugarCube Corner under the employment of Mr. and Mrs. Cake. Applejack works on a farm with her sister Applebloom (who is a part of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, but we'll get to that) and her older brother Big Mac who only says yup or nope most of the time. Granny Smith cares for them all. Rarity owns the Carousel Boutique and has a younger sister named Sweetie Belle (also part of the CMC). Twilight used to live in a tree library but upon the Season Five premiere, she has her own castle in replacement.

So they all become friends and suddenly Nightmare Moon returns. Who's Nightmare Moon? Well a long time ago, Celestia controlled the sun, and Luna the moon. Luna became jealous that nopony enjoyed the night and refused to lower the moon. This caused the sisters to become entwined in an epic battle, and Celestia used the elements of harmony (gem like objects explained more later) to banish Luna to the moon. Now Luna has returned but an evil version of herself, determined to plunge the world in eternal darkness once more. Twilight and her friends must use the elements of harmony to bring her back to normal. Each pony is associated with an element. Twilight: Magic. Applejack: Honesty. Fluttershy: kindness. Rarity: Generosity. Pinkie Pie: Laughter. Rainbow Dash: loyalty. So they succeed and Luna is brought back to her normal self. Thus began Luna's reign in the series.

I should probably explain the CMC before I end this. It's going to have to be in two parts (sorry!) it's getting a bit long. So the Cutie Mark Crusaders members are Sweetie Belle, Applebloom, and Scootaloo (who's origin story is not canon as of yet). They are the last in theor class to get a cutie mark as they discover at the class bullies (diamond Tiara and silver spoon) cutecinera (i don't know if i spelt it right I tried okay.) So they form a "secret society" to try all the crazy stunts they can to get their cutie marks, hoping SOMETHING will make them appear.
